Yeovil Town
Glovers boss set for double swoop Yeovil boss Gary Johnson is close to adding two more players to his squad. "A couple are close to signing - I would love to tell our supporters who they are, but that will only alert other clubs," he told the club website. "We have already agreed terms with Luke Oliver and David Poole as has been reported, and I hope to bring in a couple more before I go on holiday. "If it's not possible to sort things out by then, it will be at the beginning of the new season."

Glovers have Holt offer rejected
Yeovil Town have failed with a bid for Rochdale striker Gary Holt. The 24-year-old scored 24 times for Dale last season, and Glovers boss Gary Johnson said: "We did make a substantial offer which was rejected. "Unless Rochdale reconsider that offer we will turn our sights to other targets," he told the Western Gazette. Marcus Richardson has left Yeovil to sign a one-year deal with Chester, and Polish frontman Bartosz Tarachulski has also left Huish Park.

Rochdale warn off Holt admirers
Rochdale have told Yeovil and Swansea they must up their bids if they are serious about signing Grant Holt. Holt, who still has 12 months to run on his current deal, scored 24 times last season to attract offers from two clubs who clinched promotion from League Two. But Dale say they are not looking to cash in on the 24-year-old striker. "Unless someone comes in with an offer we cannot refuse, then he'll be playing for Rochdale next season," director Jim Fagan told Dale's website.

Johnson pleased with Poole swoop
Yeovil boss Gary Johnson has welcomed the signing of former Manchester United midfielder David Poole. Poole, and Woking defender Luke Oliver, both 20, have now put pen to paper at Huish Park after agreeing to move to the League Two champions last month. "To bring a Manchester United youngster here is a real coup," Johnson told the Glovers' website. "Normally, United youngsters don't come this far south because teams up north know about them first."

Glovers annouce pre-season plans
Yeovil are facing a busy pre-season as they prepare for life in League One. In July, the Glovers will tour Holland and Germany with three games planned, including games at SC Preussen Munster and Leichtathletik Rasensport Ahlen. After their return to the UK, Huish Park will play host to matches against Portsmouth, West Ham and Southampton. Gary Johnson's men also face away games at Burgess Hill, Dorchester Town, Staines Town, Woking, Cheltenham and Tiverton Town before the season begins.

Johnson may boost striking ranks
Yeovil boss Gary Johnson will use next month's tour of Holland and Germany to cast his eye over potential signings. "I have got three or four strikers who are coming on tour with us," Johnson told the Western Gazette. "Everyone knows me - I like to get to know people before taking them on so there is no panic at all. "Whether the player we want comes from abroad or from home we will have to wait and see, but I have got some irons in the fire."

Poole hits out at Man Utd policy
New Yeovil signing David Poole has hit out at former club Manchester United for not giving young players a chance. Poole claims that United and other top English clubs prefer to bring in foreign players in preference to home-grown players. Poole told the Western Daily Press: "It's disheartening to see your club bring in foreign players when they've got lads already there. "It's getting harder for young British players at clubs like United."

Thompson extends Yeovil contract
Assistant manager Steve Thompson has signed a new two-year contract which will keep him at League Two champions Yeovil Town until 2007. It comes after manager Gary Johnson signed a new three-year deal in April. Thompson, 42, joined the Glovers as a midfielder from Woking in 1998, and had a spell as caretaker boss two years later after Colin Lippiatt resigned. His last playing appearance came in April 2002, although he was still registered as a player last season.

Brown 'has talks with Rams board'
Bolton assistant boss Phil Brown is believed to have had talks with Derby about becoming their next manager. BBC Radio Derby reports that the Rams directors were hoping to have made an announcement on Monday and Brown, 46, was thought to be their first choice. But Yeovil boss Gary Johnson is still in the frame for the job and had talks with a Derby director while on holiday. Tranmere's Brian Little and Doncaster's Dave Penney have ruled themselves out of the running for the vacancy. Derby chief executive Jeremy Keith had said the club would find a successor to George Burley quickly - but it is now two weeks since the Scotsman quit. Brown worked alongside Bolton boss Sam Allardyce at Blackpool and has been his assistant at Wanderers since October 1999. He was linked with Burnley before Steve Cotterill was appointed last year. Johnson has won plaudits for taking Yeovil from the Conference to League One and turned down the chance to talk to Coventry before Micky Adams took over in January.

Brown named as new Derby manager
Phil Brown has been unveiled as Derby's new manager after leaving his role as assistant boss at Bolton. Brown, 46, has agreed a three-year contract with the Rams and he takes over from George Burley, who resigned early in June. He worked alongside Bolton boss Sam Allardyce at Blackpool and has been his assistant at Wanderers since late 1999. Brown was also linked with the Burnley job before Steve Cotterill was appointed last year. Former Bolton defender Brown has played a key part in the club's recent success and last season he helped them qualify for Europe for the first time in their history. But he has made no secret of his ambition to test his own managerial skills. Derby and Bolton are thought to have already agreed a compensation package.

Johnson turns down Derby approach
Yeovil Town manager Gary Johnson has turned down the chance to take over as boss of Championship side Derby County. Johnson was the Rams' number one choice after guiding the Glovers from the Conference to the Football League and then to the League Two title last term. But he has opted to stay at Huish Park "after a lot of deliberation". Johnson said: "I appreciate that Derby showed an interest and am grateful to the Yeovil directors for granting me permission to talk to them." Bolton assistant manager Phil Brown is now favourite to succeed George Burley in the Pride Park hot-seat.

Yeovil agree package for Oliver
Yeovil have agreed a compensation package with Conference outfit Woking for central defender Luke Oliver. The undisclosed five-figure sum for the 21-year-old who was out of contract, includes a sell-on clause. Yeovil boss Gary Johnson told the Western Daily Press: "I think it's a fair figure for a player who was out of contract and both sides should be happy "Now it's up to Luke to push on and give it a real go here, I know he's looking forward to training with us."

Yeovil net ex-Brighton star Jones
Former Brighton midfielder Nathan Jones has signed for League One outfit Yeovil on a two-year contract. The 32-year-old was released by the Seagulls at the end of last season after five years with the club. Jones told the Brighton website: "It was a football decision. Yeovil like to play the way I like to play. "They are a fit and talented group who like to work hard and give it a go. And in Gary Johnson they have one of the best managers outside the Premiership." Jones made 128 appearances for Brighton and scored eight goals in the process.

Cards coach Johnson joins Glovers
Woking's reserve-team coach Peter Johnson has left Kingfield to join League Two champions Yeovil Town. Johnson will work with his brother Gary, the Glovers' boss, at Huish Park. Johnson was also the head of youth development at Woking as part of the management team working under first-team boss Glenn Cockerill. His arrival comes hot on the heels of defender Luke Oliver, who left the Cards to join Yeovil for an undisclosed fee earlier this summer.

Yeovil sign Bees striker Harrold
Yeovil have signed Brentford striker Matt Harrold after the two clubs agreed an undisclosed "small fee". The 20-year-old has signed a two-year contract at Huish Park. "I see huge potential in him. I think he could be the striker I have been looking for for a while now," manager Gary Johnson told Yeovil's website. Harrold scored five times in 40 outings for the Bees after joning from Harlow in 2003, and also had loan spells at Dagenham and Grimsby last season.
