What else can go wrong at QPR?
Reports this morning say QPR boss Luigi Di Canio was mugged just before his side’s game against Preston on Saturday. Ordinarily that would be put down to being an unfortunate incident but when you look at how things have gone for the west London club over the last few years you have to wonder whether they have recently been cursed. If the Superhoops were still a Premier League club then their off-the-field activities would have been taking up the back-pages more than Newcastle. Since the start of the 2005/06 season, QPR have been involved in all sort of shenanigans from the ridiculous to the tragic. That season saw allegations of blackmail and threats of violence against the club's chairman Gianni Paladini, including an incident involving guns in the boardroom prior to kick-off and ended in a sorry story when youth team starlet Kiyan Prince was murdered. As if that terrible loss of life was not bad enough, barely one year later the highly-rated Ray Jones was killed in a car crash. In between there was the farcical and ill-fated match between the club and the Chinese Olympic football team that ended in violence and broken bones (anyone know if those Chinese players were guarding the Olympic torch at the weekend?). And just when you though things were cooling down the boss becomes embroiled in this bizarre tale. Will things get any calmer with the media-shy pair of Bernie Ecclestone and Flavio Briatore on board? And will Luis Figo be donning the famous blue and white hoops next season as was recently speculated? Knowing QPR’s luck, Ecclestone and Briatore will probably invite Max Mosley round to put on some pre-match entertainment.
