Shrews net reserve win at Baggies
A strong Shrewsbury side featuring several first team players claimed a 3-1 victory over a West Brom team which included Jason Koumas on Monday. Andrew Cooke, Stuart Drummond, Steven Hogg, Dale Williams and Glynn Hurst all played in the match as they stepped up their bids to regain match fitness. Shrews boss Gary Peters told the club website: \"With Hurst, Drummond and Cooke scoring it was a great exercise.\" Stuart Nicholson netted the only goal for the Championship club.

West Brom 2-0 Leicester
Leicester sealed their own fate as Darren Kenton scored an own goal and Patrick Kisnorbo conceded a penalty. The match at West Brom seemed destined to end goalless as Foxes keeper Paul Henderson kept the predatory John Hartson and Kevin Phillips at bay. At the other end, Matty Fryatt and Josh Low failed to convert their chances. But in the 82nd minute Kenton headed home Nigel Quashie's cross before Phillips converted the penalty after he was brought down by Kisnorbo. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- West Brom manager Bryan Robson: \"Jason (Koumas) is back as an Albion player - he can pass the ball well, he's got great vision. I thought the lads played well and passed well. \"If you don't get an early goal against teams who don't come out of defence you have to show patience, even when the crowd want you to bang the ball into the box.\" Leicester manager Rob Kelly: \"I'm disappointed for the players because of what they gave for the first 83 minutes. \"We were comfortable at that stage and were holding a team I think will finish inside the top six. \"It's difficult to take positives from a game you lose 2-0. But the games come thick and fast in this division and you don't have any time to sulk.\" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- West Brom: Zuberbuhler, Albrechtsen, McShane, Perry, Robinson, Greening (Koumas 69), Quashie (Chaplow 86), Wallwork, Carter, Phillips, Hartson (Ellington 69). Carter concerned about away form
West Brom midfielder Darren Carter knows his side have to turn around their dismal away form if they are to mount a promotion challenge. The Baggies have won only two league games on the road since August 2004. They travel to Preston on Tuesday night and Carter, 22, told Sir Stanley: \"I don't know whether it is a mental thing but we have to put it right. \"Away from home we have not performed and we know it. We have to prove we are not just a force at home.\" Carter starred as West Brom beat Leicester 2-0 on Saturday to move into fourth in the Championship. Bryan Robson's side have won three out of three at The Hawthorns this season - but have picked up only two points in three away games. West Brom's last away league win came against Wigan at the JJB Stadium on 15 January 2006 - with their previous success coming at Charlton on 19 March 2005. And Carter said: \"If we could work out why we have done so badly, we might have turned the corner quicker. \"We have just got to be a lot stronger mentally away from home. When things are going against us we have to dig in a little bit more. \"But I think the 2-0 defeat at Sunderland has woken us up a little bit and we know we cannot afford to play that badly again.\" Saturday's game against the Foxes was Carter's first start of the season and he almost marked it with a goal - hitting the post with a curling free-kick then smashing a shot against the bar from 25 yards. The former England Under-21 international was voted man of the match and was cheered off the pitch at the end. Carter was a target for the Baggies boo-boys as his side were relegated last season and he was glad to have shown them what he can do. \"I've been champing at the bit all season,\" Carter explained. \"I've been knocking on the gaffer's door and I've just kept trying. \"I've trained hard and when I've had my chance as a substitute before I have tried to make a difference. \"The gaffer has rewarded me with a start and said 'go out there and keep the shirt' - so that is what I have tried to do. \"I worked hard for the team and helped the team win so I am happy with that. \"I said at the start of the season that I wanted to turn things around for myself here - not just for the fans and the manager but for myself mainly. \"I was disappointed with how things went last year but this is a new season and I have come back full of confidence. \"I knew that when my chance came it was down to me to try to take it - I want to stay in the team now so I am going to stay focused and concentrate on performing well.\"

Preston v West Brom
Preston striker David Nugent serves a one-game ban so Patrick Agyemang is set to deputise. Midfielder Brian Stock is unlikely to feature as he is set to join League One Doncaster on a month's loan. West Brom striker Diomansy Kamara (broken foot) and defender Neil Clement (knee) are back in training but neither are considered match fit. Steve Watson has a thigh problem while Curtis Davies (broken metatarsal) and Thomas Gaardsoe (groin) are still out.

Preston 1-0 West Brom
Patrick Agyemang scored an overhead kick as Preston beat West Brom to register their second win in four days. West Brom were the first to threaten, Kevin Phillips shooting wide and John Hartson heading Zoltan Gera's cross against the crossbar. Carlo Nash saved from Nigel Quashie after the break, before Preston's Paul McKenna dragged a shot wide. Pascal Zuberbuhler saved Simon Whaley's low strike, while Nash denied Nathan Ellington before Agyemang struck. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Preston boss Paul Simpson on Patrick Agyemang's goal: \"It blows your mind away when you see a goal like that. \"If you are ever going to see a text-book overhead kick Patrick has performed it. \"It's hard to describe that, I don't know where it has come from and I don't know where he thought he could do it. \"I've seen it on the TV. It's only Patrick who could have the nerve to think that could be done.\" West Brom boss Bryan Robson: \"I can't believe that we've lost the game and not won it. \"I couldn't ask anything more from the players, we passed the ball well, we created chances and we missed them. \"Agyemang scored a great goal which won them the game but we should have been out of sight before that.\" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Preston: Nash, Alexander, Hill, St. Ledger, Chilvers, Pugh, Whaley, Sedgwick, McKenna, Agyemang (Anyinsah 87), Dichio. Subs Not Used: Lonergan, Jarrett, Lewis Neal, Wilson. Booked: Dichio, McKenna. Goals: Agyemang 78. West Brom v Southend
West Brom's John Hartson is an injury doubt after picking up an ankle knock. Nathan Ellington, who is back to full fitness after hamstring niggles, is expected to start up front alongside Kevin Phillips. Michael Ricketts is in contention for a Southend start after coming through a behind closed doors midweek match. But Spencer Prior faces a fortnight on the sidelines after injuring a knee in training this week, while Lee Bradbury is still suffering from a thigh injury.

Robson and West Brom part company
West Bromwich Albion have parted company with manager Bryan Robson \"by mutual consent\". The former Middlesbrough manager took control of the club in November 2004 following Gary Megson's departure. Club chairman Jeremy Peace said: \"In view of the results since early 2006, it's been decided a change is necessary if the club is to achieve its aims. \"This is a very important time for the club with promotion a priority and the best way forward is to make a change.\" First-team coach Nigel Pearson will assume control of selection affairs while the club considers its options. He will be at the helm for Tuesday's Carling Cup clash with Cheltenham. West Brom are currently ninth in the Championship having won three of their matches, lost two and drawn three this season. Robson pulled off West Brom's dramatic escape from relegation in his first season at the Hawthorns on the final day of the 2004/05 Premiership season. They were the first team in the history of the Premiership to stay up despite being bottom of the table on Boxing Day. But Robson was unable to repeat the trick for a second year running and the Baggies were relegated along with Midlands rivals Birmingham and Sunderland. Peace kept faith with Robson over the summer, insisting he wanted stability at the club and because Robson had twice won promotion to the Premiership when he was in charge at Middlesbrough. However, after a disappointing start to the Championship campaign, Robson's tenure at the club was cut short after Saturday's 1-1 home draw with Southend. Robson had won just 19 of his 81 matches in charge of West Brom and only two league matches away from home. The former Manchester United and England midfielder succeeded Megson at West Brom, after he sacked in October 2004. However, even then there was some opposition from supporters to his appointment despite serving the club with great distinction as a player. His last job - at Bradford - culminated in the team's relegation to League One and his six years at Middlesbrough ended with Terry Venables being brought in.

Cotterill cool on West Brom link
Burnley boss Steve Cotterill has cooled speculation linking him with the manager's job at West Bromwich Albion. Cotterill has been linked with the job after former Charlton boss Alan Curbishley ruled himself out. Speaking after his side's 3-2 defeat to Southampton, Cotterill said: \"I've not had any contact with them. \"I don't think my chairman Barry Kilby has had any contact. I haven't got any comment either way. There's nothing to say as I don't know anything about it.\" Cardiff boss Dave Jones is another name in the frame, but the former Southampton and Wolves boss has said he will not answer questions about the vacancy. The Baggies are seeking a new manager after parting company with Bryan Robson on 18 September.

West Brom v Leeds
West Brom striker Nathan Ellington could be out (thigh) but John Hartson is back from an ankle knock. Diomansy Kamara (broken foot) is poised for his first Championship appearance of the season while Nigel Quashie should be fit. Leeds duo Robbie Blake (groin) and Eddie Lewis (Achilles) could return. Winger Seb Carole and striker Jermaine Beckford are hoping to feature after playing in the midweek friendly with Doncaster.

West Brom make Mowbray approach
West Bromwich Albion have asked Hibernian for permission to talk to their manager Tony Mowbray. West Brom have been searching for a new boss since sacking Brian Robson last month after only eight league games. And, following increased media speculation in Scotland, West Brom released an official statement. \"Hibernian is one of a number of clubs from whom Albion has sought permission to speak to its manager regarding the managerial vacancy at The Hawthorns.\" Coventry have already turned down an approach for Micky Adams, while Cardiff boss Dave Jones and Burnley's Steve Cotterill have been repeatedly linked with the post. Mowbray rejected the chance to join Ipswich in May and agreed a new 12-month rolling contract at Easter Road last month. The 42-year-old is in his third season in Edinburgh and is a hugely popular figure with the Hibernian support.

Hibs expect Mowbray to move south
Hibernian chairman Rod Petrie expects to lose Tony Mowbray to West Bromwich Albion after granting the English club permission to talk to their manager. Mowbray said an emotional goodbye to the Hibs players on Thursday morning before travelling down to The Hawthorns to discuss personal terms. The Edinburgh club had earlier agreed a compensation package with West Brom. And Petrie said: \"The most likely outcome is that he will impress them and become appointed their new boss.\" Hibs had wanted to retain the 42-year-old. But Petrie admits that the lure of winning promotion with West Brom and managing in the Premiership led him, reluctantly, to allow Mowbray to speak to the Championship club. \"I'm sure they will be as hugely impressed as I was the first time I met him,\" he said. \"Tony joined us as an experienced coach two-and-a-half years ago and, if he leaves, he leaves as a very talented manager. \"He is a very ambitious man. He is full of hunger and passion and that's what drives him on. \"Tony made no secret of the fact that his ultimate ambition is to be a manager in the Premier League and, if he is appointed manager of West Brom, that takes him one step closer to it. \"But we are in a stronger position both on and off the field as a result of Tony's time as manager.\" Hibs on Wednesday had criticised West Brom for the manner of their approach for Mowbray. Petrie had also said Hibs' desire to keep their manager appeared stronger than West Brom's to prise him away from Easter Road. But, in a statement on the club's website, Petrie said: \"There were two significant events during the day. \"First, Tony expressed his clear desire to have the opportunity to speak to West Bromwich Albion. This was then the catalyst for agreeing a compensation package. \"Secondly, Jeremy Peace of West Bromwich Albion reflected his enthusiasm to secure Tony's services by making a much more substantial offer of compensation. \"Responsibility for preparing the team for this Sunday's Edinburgh derby will now be given to the existing coaching staff.\" West Brom said on their website: \"Albion expect to receive confirmation from Hibernian later today (Thursday) that they have been given permission to speak to their manager, Tony Mowbray, about the Hawthorns vacancy following talks last night. \"The Baggies plan to conduct talks with Mowbray in the next 24 hours.\" Mowbray had rejected the chance to join Ipswich Town in May and agreed a new 12-month rolling contract at Easter Road last month. However, those terms are to take effect from 1 July 2007, meaning any compensation deal would only cover the rest of this season. Mowbray is in his third season in Edinburgh and is a hugely popular figure with the Hibs support.

Ipswich v West Brom
Ipswich midfielder Gavin Williams misses the game as he serves a one-match suspension. Defender Alex Bruce is available after ban, while full-back Fabian Wilnis is fit following a thigh injury. West Brom skipper Curtis Davies has recovered from a broken metatarsal and could come in for fellow defender Paul McShane, who is suspended. Nathan Ellington is fit after a thigh injury but midfielder Nigel Quashie is a doubt with ankle ligament damage.

Mowbray leaves Hibs for West Brom
West Bromwich Albion have appointed Tony Mowbray as their new manager. Mowbray leaves SPL side Hibernian to succeed Bryan Robson, who left the Baggies by mutual consent in September. \"When the chance arose to speak to West Brom, a club steeped in great tradition, it was an opportunity I could not turn down,\" said Mowbray. The 42-year-old will take up his post on Wednesday, but will attend the Championship games against Ipswich on Saturday and Crystal Palace on Tuesday. \"I spoke to the board this week and the talks went very well,\" Mowbray added. \"I always think it's important that the fit is right when a manager joins a new club. \"And I would like to think this fit is right.\" West Brom, who were relegated from the Premiership last season, are currently seventh in the Championship table. Mowbray took the reins at Hibernian in 2004 following a spell on the coaching staff at Ipswich. He said: \"At Ipswich, I coached under George Burley and Joe Royle knowing I wanted to become a manager. \"I am very, very grateful to Hibs for giving me that opportunity. \"I had two-and-a-half enjoyable years up there and I would like to think it was a relatively successful time considering the way we got the club moving. \"But I felt I was ready for the next challenge.\" Mowbray rejected the chance to return to Portman Road as manager earlier this year and in September signed a new 12-month rolling contract at Easter Road. However, the lure of West Brom proved too much and, after agreeing compensation, Hibernian allowed him to leave. \"The club would like to thank Tony for all that he has done during his time at Easter Road and wish him and his family every success in the future,\" said a statement on the Hibernian website. Hibs' preparations for Sunday's Edinburgh derby with Hearts at Easter Road have been supervised by first-team coach Mark Venus and his staff.

Ipswich 1-5 West Brom
Striker Kevin Phillips fired a hat-trick as West Brom, watched by new manager Tony Mowbray who will take over on Wednesday, swept past Ipswich. Diomansy Kamara slid in the opener for the Baggies, before Chris Perry put through his own net to make it 1-1. But Jason Koumas soon fed Phillips, who headed in to restore Albion's lead. Phillips grabbed his second from Zoltan Gera's cross before he set up Kamara to make it 4-1, and curled in a 20-yard shot with seconds left for his third. # West Brom caretaker manager Nigel Pearson: \"It's an irony of football. This has been coming because we know we have good players. Although I am delighted with the result, in a way it's a shame it came now. \"Once you get a label for being unable to win away it can cause a barrier. Ultimately it was probably the reason for the change of leadership, but that's football. \"This was undoubtedly the most clinical performance we have given all season.\" Ipswich boss Jim Magilton: \"When we fell behind we did not seem to have the spirit to come back. \"West Brom had more desire than us They were a level above us and it was an eye-opener. \"We just didn't sense danger at all and we defended too deep. We must now lick our wounds and put it behind us.\" Ipswich: Price, Bruce, De Vos, Naylor, Harding, Currie (Bowditch 54), Legwinski, Walton (Richards 79), Noble, Lee, Clarke. Subs Not Used: Supple, Sito, Macken. Booked: Walton, Naylor, Bruce, Noble. Goals: Perry 36 og. West Brom: Zuberbuhler, Albrechtsen, Perry, Curtis Davies, Robinson, Gera (Ellington 87), Carter, Koumas (Quashie 80), Greening, Kamara, Phillips. Subs Not Used: Steele, Hartson, Watson. Crystal Palace v West Brom
Crystal Palace seem certain to be without defender Matt Lawrence after suffering a suspected broken toe. Palace boss Peter Taylor is likely to try to counter the situation by fielding either Darren Ward or Hudson as a makeshift right-back. West Brom's Paul McShane could return to the side after suspension in what will be Nigel Pearson's last match as caretaker manager. But Neil Clement (knee) is out and Thomas Gaardsoe (groin) is doubtful.
