Watford sign two players on loan
Watford have signed two players on month-long loans ahead of Tuesday's Championship trip to Burnley. Centre-half Darren Ward, 30, who started his career with the Hornets, joins on loan from Wolves. Goalkeeper Mark Tyler, 31, has moved from Peterborough following the injuries to Mart Poom and Scott Loach. Captain and centre-half Jay Demerit is out with hamstring injury but Watford had Nigeria international Sam Sodje on loan from Reading as cover. But Sodje has returned to Reading after just one game, having suffered a knee injury against Sheffield United. Ward rejoins more than 11 years after making his Watford debut, and having made just one substitute appearance this season at table-topping Wolves. Tyler has made more than 400 appearances for Peterborough, and will provide cover for Richard Lee.

Loan pair to extend Watford stay
Championship side Watford have extended the loan deals of Peterborough keeper Mark Tyler and Wolves defender Darren Ward for a second month. Tyler, 31, has yet to make a first-team appearance for the Hornets. Ward, 30, who started his career at Vicarage Road, has featured in all of the last five games for the Hornets apart from the Wolves game. Both players are now available up to and including the Championship game with Doncaster on 29 November. Tyler is the longest-serving player at Peterborough, but after a back injury has found first-team opportunities limited. Following a loan spell at Hull City last season, he has remained on the London Road transfer list. He provides cover for the Hornets goalkeeping crisis that currently sees both Mart Poom and Scott Loach sidelined. Ward is ineligible for next month's Carling Cup trip to Swansea, having already played in a previous round for Wolves.

Watford chairman Simpson resigns
Graham Simpson has resigned as chairman of Watford at the club's Extraordinary General Meeting on Monday, reports BBC Three Counties Radio. Non-executive director Andrew Wilson will take over as chairman on an interim basis. The EGM was called after a vote of no confidence in the board was proposed by former directors Jimmy and Vince Russo. The proposal was withdrawn ahead of the meeting and no vote taken as Simpson ended his six-year spell at the club. He became chairman in September 2002 and initially steered the club away from the threat of administration. He revealed in July that he was willing to sell the club, but always stated that he would remain at Vicarage Road until a new buyer could be found. His departure continues the turmoil at the Hornets, which saw Elton John, who was critical of Simpson's regime, give up his position as life president and former manager Aidy Boothroyd part company with the club by mutual consent last month. Simpson appointed Chelsea youth-team coach Brendan Rodgers as Boothroyd's replacement only a week before his resignation. Rodgers began his managerial reign on Saturday with a 1-1 draw at home to bottom club Doncaster.

Watford's Don Cowie hopes late nerves are banished
Watford winger Don Cowie hopes Tuesday's 2-0 win over Bristol City has cured them of their injury-time nerves. The Hornets conceded a last-gasp goal for the third time this season in Saturday's 2-2 draw with Doncaster. Cowie, 27, told BBC Three Counties Radio: "Once you're 2-0 up it's up to us to see the game out, we've struggled at times to do that. "We're a young team, we're learning all the time. I thought tonight showed we've learned from the weekend." Malky Mackay's men displayed a resolute side to their play by holding on to the lead given to them by strikers Marvin Sordell and Danny Graham for almost all of the second half. "You don't plan to wobble, you just know teams are going to throw everything at you in the late stages," Cowie added. "We never gave them the opportunity to do that. That's credit to every player but I thought the back five were immense tonight." Cowie himself put in a stand-out performance for the Hornets, who secured their first Championship win since the opening day of the season. The Scot, who made the switch to Vicarage Road from Inverness in February 2009, has been praised by Mackay for his all-action performances this season, and hopes to continue his good form. "When things go as well as that as a team, there's no better feeling than to be involved with it," he said. "On a personal note I was very pleased, my energy is one of my strengths and I try and give everything I can every game."

Davies remaining grounded
Nottingham Forest manager Billy Davies played down his side's chances of automatic promotion from the npower Championship despite them moving up to second place with a 1-0 home win over Watford. Marcus Tudgay was Forest`s matchwinner, netting the only goal after just 51 seconds from the edge of the box to secure a sixth successive win. "I think we are great candidates for the play-offs but if I am totally honest I think we are a little bit short for going up automatically. That is my honest evaluation," said Davies. "I have a great bunch of players here who work extremely hard and I am very proud of what they are doing. "At the end of the day I look at what our rivals like Queens Park Rangers, Cardiff and Leicester are doing in terms of preparing themselves for the remainder of the season and that's why I take the view that I am. "Sometimes I get frustrated because I am desperate to get this team and this club into the Premier League. But we have 18 games left to play - 18 big games - and we will attempt to accumulate as many points as we can. But we know that every point will be difficult to get."
