Tranmere extend Shotton loan stay
Tranmere Rovers have extended the loan of Stoke City defender Ryan Shotton by a further month.
The 19-year-old joined Rovers at the end of August and has made five appearances, scoring two goals.
Tranmere manager Ronnie Moore said he was delighted to secure the teenager's services for an extended period.
"I'm delighted to keep Ryan here for another month. He has been fantastic for us at right-back," Moore told the club website.
"I'm grateful to Stoke manager Tony Pulis for allowing Ryan to stay with us for another month."
Moore annoyed by McSweeney antics
Tranmere Rovers manager Ronnie Moore has criticised the role Stockport's Leon McSweeney played in defender Andy Taylor's sending-off on Tuesday night.
Taylor was dismissed for picking up two yellow cards in quick succession as the goalless draw at Edgeley Park was nearing its end.
Moore told BBC Radio Merseyside: "How many rolls did the lad do? Talk about Oscar material.
"Taylor did clip him but he's gone down to get him sent off."
Moore looking for away day gains
Tranmere Rovers manager Ronnie Moore is demanding an improvement in his side's away form in League One.
Rovers beat Stockport 2-1 on Tuesday to stretch their unbeaten league home run to nine matches, but they have not won away in the same number of games.
Moore told Radio Merseyside: "We've set our standard now so let's go away from home and do it.
"There's no reason why we can't get it and pass it and hopefully that's what we'll do in the next couple of games."
Moore was delighted with the way his side approached the game against Stockport and with the number of chances they created.
Rovers led 2-0 through a strike from Gareth Edds and an Ian Moore penalty, before Oli Johnson grabbed a late consolation for the visitors.
Moore was pleased to see midfielder Edds, a summer signing from MK Dons, score his second goal in two matches.
"He will get goals, there's no doubt about it. He's had the chances but you don't miss them all the time if you keep getting in the right spots like he has done," said Moore.
Tranmere sack Barnes and McAteer
Tranmere have sacked manager John Barnes and assistant boss Jason McAteer after a run of just two league wins from 11 matches.
The club are 22nd in League One and were knocked out of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy on Tuesday.
"Unfortunately results have not gone our way this season and we are at the wrong end of the table," chairman Peter Johnson told the club website.
"We must now focus on finding the best possible candidate."
Physio Les Parry has been placed in temporary charge and will be assisted by reserve boss Shaun Garnett.
Johnson added: "I urge all supporters to get behind Les, Shaun and the team on Monday when we play at home to Stockport County."
Parry says he was sad to see Barnes leave the club and had nothing but praise for the for the Liverpool legend.
"It was obviously sad this morning to see the gaffer go," he told BBC Radio Merseyside. "He's one of the world's nicest men, so you don't like to see people like that sacked.
"But when the chairman asked me to stand in, I was quite excited really.
"I see it as an opportunity over the next couple of weeks," he continued. "I'm not too sure I want it to go beyond the next two weeks.
"It will be a taster, so I'll be able to tell you whether I like it or whether I don't, or whether I want to go back to my own little world of doing what I want to do.
"But I see it short term and I'm sure the chairman sees it as short term. If we get two or three results, I'm sure the chairman may think differently."
Former England midfielder Barnes previously had an unsuccessful spell as manager of Celtic.
He left his post as Jamaica boss in July to take up the manager's role at Prenton Park with ex-Liverpool team-mate Jason McAteer joining as his assistant.
The duo replaced previous boss Ronnie Moore following Tranmere's failure to make the League One play-offs last season.
Moore was recently appointed as manager of Rotherham for a second spell.
