Tranmere 0-1 Nottingham Forest A first-half strike from Grant Holt was enough to defeat Tranmere and keep Forest's play-off dreams alive.
Holt found the back of the net with an angled shot from a corner to notch up his fourth goal for the club.
Tranmere had their chances but simply could not score as Steve Davies saw his shot deflected while Steve Jennings headed wide.
Forest had a chance of a second when Nathan Tyson lobbed inches over Rovers' empty goal but they had done enough.

Colchester 1-0 Tranmere Colchester moved up to second in League One with a win over 10-man Tranmere.
The U's were soon on top and Rovers lost Stephen O'Leary for his late challenge on defender John White.
Colchester kept up the pressure but it took them until 63 minutes to go ahead when Wayne Brown crashed a left-footed shot home from 20 yards.
Tranmere went for broke, and the lively Steve Jennings had a chance to level but his header from a David Raven cross went just wide of the mark.

Tranmere pair agree new contracts Tranmere Rovers duo Steve Jennings and Carl Tremarco have both signed new two-year contracts.
Midfielder Jennings, 21, has made 38 appearances for Tranmere this season, scoring two goals.
"He has a great deal of potential and hopefully he will grow as a player over the next two years," manager Brian Little told Tranmere's website.
Left-sided defender Tremarco, 20, has started 12 League One games for the Prenton Park club this season.

Veteran Rankine leaves Tranmere Midfielder Mark Rankine looks set to retire after leaving Tranmere and ending his contract at his own request.
The 36-year-old moved to Prenton Park from Sheffield United in June 2004.
Tranmere manager Brian Little told the club's official website: "Mark has great first season with us, helping us to reach the play-offs.
"However, he has found his recovery between games more difficult this season and he has felt it best to call it a day."
Rankine began his career at Doncaster and then had spells with Wolves, Preston, Sheffield United and finally Tranmere.
Tranmere are to appeal against the red card shown to Jason McAteer against Bristol City on Saturday.
"We have looked at the video over the weekend, and feel that there was no deliberate attempt by Jason to elbow the player," chief executive Mick Horton said.

Roberts waits on contract offers Tranmere defender Gareth Roberts is hoping his performances this season will help him secure a new club when he comes out of contract in the summer.
The Wales full-back was named in the PFA League One team of the year despite Rovers flirting with relegation.
Roberts' agent, former Tranmere striker Simon Haworth, said: "Hull came in for him in the January transfer window, so they'll probably bid for him again.
"There are a number of Championship clubs interested."

Three goals in the final five minutes of the match saw Tranmere earn a win to preserves their own League One status.
Tranmere netted when David Partridge headed Jason McAteer's free-kick into his own net, but the Dons levelled through Izale McLeod's overhead kick.

Lewis Guy gave the visitors a 12th-minute lead with superb strike from an acute angle.
Tranmere keeper Steve Wilson gave the ball to Guy as he tried to feed Carl Tremarco and he crossed for Neil Roberts to head home the second.
Guy then fired wide when he had a good chance after Tranmere's Delroy Facey shaved the outside of the post.

Roberts joins ranks at Doncaster Doncaster Rovers manager Dave Penney has secured the signing of Tranmere left-back Gareth Roberts.
Roberts, 28, will join the Belle Vue outfit when his contract ends at Prenton Park on 1 July.
The defender joined Liverpool as a trainee in 1994 and moved on to Greek side Panionios where he played in the Uefa Cup.
The Welsh international spent three years at Prenton Park and scored 14 goals in over 300 appearances.

Aiston and Holt join Northampton Northampton boss John Gorman has made winger Sam Aiston and left-back Andy Holt his first signings since taking charge of the Cobblers.
The duo have agreed two-year deals at the Sixfields Stadium.
Aiston, 29, was released by Tranmere at the end of last season, while Holt, 28, was available after ending a two-year stay at Wrexham.

Tranmere 1-0 Oldham A first-half goal by Chris Greenacre gave Tranmere all three points against Oldham who had two men sent off.
Greenacre headed into the top corner in the 25th minute after Kevin Ellison headed on Chris Shuker's cross.
Four minutes after the break, Greenacre spurned a chance from 10 yards before home keeper Gavin Ward turned aside an angled header from Maheta Malongo.

Doncaster 0-0 Tranmere Doncaster Rovers were forced to settle for a point with a hard-working Tranmere Rovers side at Belle Vue.
The visitors edged the first half in tricky windy conditions, but the home side did most of the attacking with James Coppinger causing problems.

Tranmere boss looking for goals Tranmere manager Ronnie Moore has pledged to devote more time to working with his strikers in a bid to improve their scoring record.
Rovers have scored one goal in their first three league games.
And Moore told the club's website: \"We're going to do a lot of crossing and a lot of finishing.
\"There is a lot to work on and I think it is just a matter of time before we give someone a hiding. We've created a lot of chances but just scored once.\"
