Keane given Tottenham captaincy
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has made Robbie Keane his side's new captain following the striker's return to White Hart Lane from Liverpool.
The 28-year-old Republic of Ireland star re-signed for Spurs only six months after leaving for Anfield and takes the armband from Ledley King.
"I just felt with Robbie coming in there would be a new impetus with him as captain," said Redknapp.
"He can give an awful lot. He is a big personality and we are a quiet team."
Keane has signed a four-year contract at Spurs, with the fee starting at £12m and rising with add-ons.
He has returned to the club where he made 254 appearances and scored 107 goals between August 2002 and July 2008.
The former Wolves, Coventry, Inter Milan and Leeds forward often deputised for King as captain during his first spell with Spurs.
"If Robbie has something to say, he is going to say it," stated Redknapp. "He is a leader and has the personality to be a captain of Tottenham."
Defender King, who is currently sidelined because of a hamstring injury, will remain as club captain but Keane will lead the team.
Redknapp revealed both King and fellow centre-half Jonathan Woodgate, who was appointed captain on a temporary basis, were fully behind the change.
"I have spoken to Ledley, who is injured, and also to Jonathan Woodgate about it and they have been fine about it," added Redknapp. "Jonathan said, 'Nothing will change. I still want to be a leader out there,' which is good."
Redknapp has been one of the busiest managers during the January transfer window, spending £45m to shape his team into one capable of a successful fight against relegation from the Premier League.
With Spurs currently sitting 14th in the Premier League and only a point above the relegation zone, Redknapp is relieved the window has now shut so he can focus on his squad's form.
"I am delighted it is all finished. I hope that this time next season I do not have to bring anybody in during the transfer window, there is nothing I would like better," he said.
"This year, because of our situation, we needed to strengthen the squad and that is what we did. The chairman Daniel Levy has been terrific and been so supportive. I did not think we would get Robbie Keane, I thought there was no way Liverpool were going to sell him but the chairman has worked on that and done well to get him in.
"Now I feel we have got a squad that can push on."
Redknapp to play youngsters again
Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp said after the 2-0 loss at Shakhtar Donetsk that he will have to field an even less experienced team for the second leg.
A much-changed Spurs side stood strong for most of the first leg, but Yevgen Seleznov and Rodrigues Jadson scored goals inside the final 11 minutes.
"I gave one 17-year-old (Dean Parrett) his debut and might have four 17-year-olds next week," said Redknapp.
"When we play the second leg it will only be half as strong as this side."
With Spurs embarking on a run of six fixtures in 17 days, Redknapp started with a weakened side for the last-32 tie against the Ukrainian champions.
Jermaine Jenas and Michael Dawson were the only players in the starting line-up who had been in action in the goalless draw against Arsenal last weekend, with 17-year-old midfielder Dean Parrett making his debut.
Luka Modric, Jonathan Woodgate, Wilson Palacios and Aaron Lennon were among the players rested.
Spurs face Hull on Monday before the second leg at White Hart Lane on 26 February and then meet Manchester United in the Carling Cup final three days later.
"If someone can tell me how to find a team the Thursday before a cup final then I'd like to know. It's a crazy schedule, six games in 17 days and all big games.
"We have good young players and this is good experience for them.
"I felt if we could stay in the game for 60-70 minutes we could push on for the last 15 or so.
"I couldn't see them scoring and thought they had run out of ideas but we gave a silly free-kick away and were punished. That's how it goes. It won't be easy now.
"I felt we contained them easily tonight but to pull a two-goal deficit back isn't going to be easy."
Defender Dawson believes Tottenham can still progress in the Uefa Cup despite Thursday's defeat.
"It's going to be an uphill task - but we believe we can do it," he said.
"We knew coming to a place like this they would have a lot of the ball but we're disappointed."
And Dawson refused to use the absence of several senior players as an excuse, saying: "Look at the players who've come in, we had a great team out there and believed we could come here and win.
"But we know how good we are at home and we'll have to take the game to them."
Redknapp denies departure rumours
Harry Redknapp has denied he is to leave Tottenham despite speculation he could become the first Premier League boss to lose his job this season.
Bookmakers slashed the odds on the Spurs manager departing White Hart Lane from 50-1 to evens at one point.
But Redknapp, who has guided Tottenham to their best start to a season for 50 years, said: "I'm definitely not leaving. It's absolute nonsense.
"I couldn't be happier. I love it here and I have no intention of leaving."
Graham Sharpe from bookmakers William Hill said: "It is probably a bandwagon effect as usual, based on unsubstantiated gossip.
"But in volatile markets of this nature you can't afford to take a chance and we are being inundated with calls from punters wanting to bet that Harry will be the first to go."
Redknapp left Portsmouth to join the London club in October 2008 after Spurs sacked Juande Ramos.
Spurs have won five of their first seven Premier League games this season and are fourth in the table.
Tottenham Hotspur name Investec as second shirt sponsor
Tottenham Hotspur has signed a deal under which specialist bank and asset management firm Investec will become its second shirt sponsor.
Software infrastructure company Autonomy is the White Hart Lane club's shirt sponsor in the Premier League.
Now Investec will become shirt sponsor for Champions League and domestic cup competitions for the next two years.
The new shirt should be worn for a Champions League play-off first leg match away to Swiss side Young Boys.
This season Spurs are also involved in the FA Cup and League Cup competitions.
The club is also looking for a naming rights sponsor for its proposed new stadium.
The Autonomy deal is worth £20m, and the Investec deal is believed to be worth worth £5m over two years, although the club has not disclosed the value.
However it remains to be seen how many fans will fork out for both shirts.
The move to split the shirt sponsorship between league matches and cup competitions is understood to have been the idea of club chairman Daniel Levy.
Autonomy and Investec are only the fifth and sixth brands to appear on the club's shirts, taking over from online betting company Mansion.
Pavlyuchenko wanted by former club
Spartak Moscow have admitted they want to re-sign Roman Pavlyuchenko from Tottenham.
The 29-year-old has threatened to quit Spurs unless he gets more first-team action and Spartak would welcome back a player they sold for £13.8million after Euro 2008.
Russian clubs can continue to sign players until March 10 and Spartak have been linked with Lazio striker Mauro Zarate and Fenerbahce's Daniel Guiza, but sporting director Dmitry Popov is more keen on Pavlyuchenko.
'Roman, of course, is a player of high quality,' said Popov. 'In the Russian championship he would score consistently. He's a national team player, so it's understandable that he'd be interesting to us.
'But another thing is the price put on him by Tottenham. Last year we made and official offer for Pavlyuchenko but didn't get a reply from the London club.'
Spartak would rather buy now, but Pavlyuchenko has been told to stay put until the summer and is keen to stay in the Barclays Premier League.
There is plenty of interest among Russia's top clubs, but the player's agent Oleg Artemov said: 'There is no chance that Pavlyuchenko will move from White Hart Lane until the end of the season.
'After the end of the season I will meet with Tottenham again and we will discuss Roman's future. His deal is expiring in June 2012 so we will have time to discuss it.
'Of course Pavlyuchenko has read in newspapers about Spurs' failed bids on (Sergio) Aguero and other strikers, but he doesn't pay attention to them. The main thing for him is to play.
'Roman got a chance to play for 20 minutes and he made an assist in crucial moment of the game against Bolton.'
