Stockport v Torquay
Stockport boss Jim Gannon has the rare luxury of picking from an almost fully-fit squad. Michael Raynes (exhaustion) is out and Adam Proudlock has recovered from a knee injury, but is unlikely to play. Torquay defender Stevland Angus is hoping to recover from a virus which caused him to miss the Johnstone's Paint Trophy exit at Bristol Rovers Angus's place at left back went to Stephen Reed, who will deputise if he is sidelined again.

Stockport 1-0 Torquay
Stockport leapfrogged Torquay in the table as they consigned the visitors to a fifth consecutive defeat. But it took an error from Gulls goalkeeper Nathan Abbey for Stockport to get their goal. Left-back Adam Griffin swung over a tempting cross, and Abbey fumbled Adam Le Fondre's header, which only just crept over the line. Tony Dinning, Keith Briggs and Jason Taylor all came close to doubling Stockport's lead as they domainated. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stockport: Ruddy, Williams, Clare, Owen, Griffin, Briggs, Dinning, Taylor, Malcolm (Ellis 64), Bramble (Dickinson 72), Le Fondre. Torquay v Shrewsbury
Torquay could be without Mickey Evans and Kevin Hill (calf) and defender Steve Woods (lower leg). Kyle Critchell could play after joining on loan from Southampton and Leo Fortune-West's loan has been extended. Shrewsbury manager Gary Peters has doubts over skipper Richard Hope, Ben Davies and Derek Asamaoah ahead of the trip to Torquay. Defender Hope (thigh strain), Asamaoah (illness) and Davies (ankle) will all be assessed before kick-off.

Torquay 0-0 Shrewsbury
Goalkeeper Nathan Abbey was Torquay's hero as his first-half penalty save helped them secure their first point after five successive league defeats. Abbey's mistake had handed a 1-0 win to Stockport last weekend but he brilliantly saved from Ben Davies after Torquay skipper Lee Thorpe handled. Torquay's Adam Murray was just off target with a first-half volley and just past the hour he struck the bar. Debutant Scott Shearer also pulled off a series of fine saves for Shrewsbury. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Torquay: Abbey, Andrews, Woods, Thorpe, Angus, Murray, Critchell, Mansell, Phillips (McPhee 84), Fortune-West, Ward. Garner will be released by Gulls
Torquay boss Ian Atkins has said that he will not renew midfielder Darren Garner's short-term contract when it expires at the end of November. Garner, 34, joined the Gulls from Rotherham in the summer of 2005 after a loan spell the previous season. \"Lady Time waits for no man and, I'm sorry, the years have caught up with Darren,\" Atkins told the club website. \"I just wish I had a 28-year-old Garner as he's done brilliantly. I'm going to help him find something else.\"

Walsall v Torquay
Walsall defender Anthony Gerrard is a major doubt after suffering an ankle injury in training. Chris Westwood may step in, but Scott Dann could return after recovering from the thigh injury which has ruled him out of the Saddlers' last four games. Torquay are without Leo Fortune-West, who has been recalled by Rushden and Diamonds because of an injury crisis. And the Gulls are waiting on Craig Taylor (lower back), Micky Evans (calf) and Kevin Hill (calf).

Torquay boss backs striker Ward
Torquay boss Ian Atkins is sure striker Jamie Ward will recover from his barren spell and become a valuable asset. Ward, 20, has missed several chances during the Gulls' goalless run which spans seven league and cup matches. Atkins told the Herald Express: \"You give Jamie another year, and a full season in this division, and he's going to be worth a hell of a lot of money. \"He's learning his trade, but he is desperate for a goal. At least he's getting himself in positions to score.\"

Exeter keen to re-sign Phillips
Exeter City have launched a bid to bring winger Martin Phillips back to the club from neighbours Torquay. The Grecians want to re-sign Phillips, who started his career at Exeter before spells at Manchester City, Portsmouth and Plymouth. Any deal for the 30-year-old would initially be a loan move until the transfer window reopens in January. He has made 78 appearances for Torquay since joining the club in July 2004 but has started just 10 games this season.

Gulls reported after Swindon game
Torquay have been reported to the Football Association by referee Danny McDermid following an incident after Saturday's 1-0 home defeat by Swindon. The referee's report states that \"while walking off the pitch, the assistant referee was spat on by a person occupying the home supporters' area\". Having revealed on their website that they have been reported, the Gulls have appealed for witnesses to contact them. The only goal of the game came from a disputed penalty awarded to Swindon.

Liam Davis (shin) is a doubt but Peter Gain (groin), Trevor Benjamin (back) and Jamie Day (calf) are available. Torquay are waiting on the fitness of left-back Stevland Angus, who is struggling to overcome a knee injury. Kubik is relying on substitutes
Torquay manager Lubos Kubik has revealed that his substitutes are playing a major part for the club. Kubik is facing an injury crisis at Plainmoor and is being forced to rely on replacements. He told SSB: \"We have several of the squad that are not fit, so we are thinking more about the way we use our substitutes. \"Some of our players will not last 90 minutes and so the replacements are playing a vital role at the moment.\"

Torquay v Boston
Torquay striker Jamie Ward could return to the starting line-up after being left on the bench for Tuesday's FA Cup second round win over Leyton Orient. Midfielder Kevin Hill is doubtful with a virus but versatile Stevland Angus should be fit to feature after he was badly winded against Orient. Boston manager Steve Evans looks set to name an unchanged side. Simon Rusk (knee) and Stewart Talbot (calf) are again his only two absentees and the Pilgrims have no suspensions.

SirStanleyBowles- 12-22-2006
Grimsby v Torquay
Grimsby's Gary Jones begins a four-match ban while fellow striker Michael Reddy is nearing full fitness but is set to be on the bench again. Veteran defender John McDermott (calf) is rated doubtful while midfielder Paul Bolland (foot) is also set to miss out but Nick Fenton is back from a ban. Torquay player of the year Kevin Hill proved his recovery from a virus by scoring twice for the reserves. Craig Taylor is also in contention after back and thigh injuries.
