Tevez set to muscle in
Tevez will bid to convince Sir Alex Ferguson he is ready to fire United back into the title race against QPR tonight. The Argentine international is set to start in the Carling Cup clash - when he hopes to stake a claim for Saturday's Premier League clash with Stoke. And how United could do with an in-form Tevez after watching a host of chances go begging in the 2-1 defeat at Arsenal, which leaves them eight points behind leaders Chelsea and Liverpool. Tevez has had to bide his time so far this season with Fergie preferring the Wayne Rooney-Dimitar Berbatov partnership. But with that pair firing blanks in their last three outings together, the door has been opened for Tevez to step in and reinvigorate his United career. Tevez out-shot Rooney last term with 19 goals as the Reds landed the Champions League and Premier League double. This season the 24-year-old was the Reds' in-form forward during the sluggish opening to the campaign - but has slid down the pecking order since the £30m arrival of Berbatov. His last goal was in the 2-1 defeat against Liverpool in September. Since then he has made just four starts in United's 13 fixtures and appeared as a substitute in seven matches. Berbatov and Rooney scored nine goals in four starts at one point, sparking speculation the Reds wanted to opt out of the permanent deal for Tevez. But Ferguson is committed to the £32m fee agreed with his owners. Talks have now begun over his personal terms and a deal is expected before the end of the year.
