Switzerland U21s v England U21s
England Under-21s take on Switzerland Under-21s in Lucerne on Wednesday in a must-win game for Peter Taylor's side.
England have to claim victory in order to qualify for an October play-off for a place in next summer's European Championship in Holland.
Scott Carson will start in goal while Crystal Palace keeper Scott Flinders joins up as Ben Alnwick's replacement.
Theo Walcott and David Nugent should start up front but Darren Ambrose did not travel as he has a groin injury.
England Under-21 coach Peter Taylor:
\"We know what we've got to do, we must go there and get the win.
\"But we know they will be a good test for us, they are a very good side.
\"The eleven players who start for us on Wednesday will be up for it and will be looking to get into that play-off.\"
England Under-21 squad:
Goalkeepers: Camp, Carson, Flinders.
Defenders: Baines, Ferdinand, Hoyte, Kilgallon, Richards, Taylor.
Midfielders: Bentley, Huddlestone, Milner, Reo-Coker, Routledge, Welsh, Whittingham.
Strikers: Jerome, Nugent, Walcott, Young
Switzerland U21s 2-3 England U21s
England Under-21s reached the European Championship play-offs after a late winner from James Milner gave them victory over Switzerland.
Needing a win in Lucerne to top the group, teenage forward Theo Walcott put England ahead before David Nugent doubled the lead.
Johan Vonlanthen pulled a goal back from the penalty spot before Tranquillo Barnetta curled in an equaliser.
But with two minutes left Milner found the bottom corner to seal the win.
England U21s handed Germany tie
England Under-21s face Germany next month in a two-legged play-off to reach the 2007 European Championship finals.
Peter Taylor's youngsters defeated Switzerland on Wednesday to top their three-team group and secure a place in the next phase of qualifying.
Taylor is in charge on a match-by-match basis until England boss Steve McClaren finds a full-time successor.
The Crystal Palace boss is expected to be in charge for the match on 7 October and the second leg four days later.
Taylor is set to ask McClaren whether eligible senior players - such as Aaron Lennon and Stewart Downing - can be made available for the Germany match.
\"We'd love anybody young enough to get us through the play-offs,\" said Taylor.
\"The tournament is very important to the education of the players.\"
As well as Lennon and Downing, Darren Bent and Kieran Richardson - and technically Wayne Rooney - are young enough to play.
\"If we put out a strong team, to get into the finals would be terrific for the players,\" Taylor added.
Theo Walcott opened the scoring in Switzerland, where a further strike from David Nugent and a late James Milner winner helped see off their hosts 3-2.
The result means Crystal Palace boss Taylor will stay at the helm for the time being.
Sammy Lee turned down the full-time job to focus on Bolton where he is an assistant to Sam Allardyce, while Dave Penney has been linked to the role since his departure from Doncaster.
Alan Shearer and Alan Curbishley are among the high-profile candidates in a position to take on the post if they decide to return to football, but Taylor remains happy to be in charge indefinitely.
Taylor added: \"I know exactly where I stand, there's no problem. I fully respect the decision of getting a full-time manager in, I'm happy to do it part-time until the minute they get someone in.
\"It probably was going to be Sammy Lee but he decided to stay at Bolton, so it's going to take a little longer.
\"I think I know the type of under-21 manager they are looking for, but they haven't asked for my advice on that but Steve and myself have spoken about squad selections and we talk about the under-21s quite a bit.
\"I'm delighted now that, hopefully, I'll be doing it for the play-off matches, they should be very exciting games.
\"If we got to the finals, of course I'd love to take them there - it'll be a magnificent tournament.\"
