Leeds talks with Wise put on hold Swindon have withdrawn permission for Dennis Wise to hold talks with Leeds over their vacant managerial post.
The Robins earlier allowed Wise and assistant Gus Poyet to talk to Leeds.
But a Swindon statement said: \"The club made clear they would only release Dennis and Gus from their contracts if suitable compensation was paid.
\"Regrettably, it has proven impossible to agree compensation. The club has withdrawn permission for Leeds to talk with or seek to appoint Wise or Poyet.\"
Swindon say talks between the two clubs are \"ongoing\" but the Robins also revealed they have offered Wise and Poyet improved terms if they stay at the County Ground.
\"Dennis and Gus remain contracted until the end of June 2009 and are continuing to fulfil their duties,\" the statement read.
\"Both they and the club are determined to ensure that the progress achieved to date continues.
\"Both individuals have been offered significantly improved terms at the club and it is hoped they will remain at Swindon for the forseeable future.\"
Wise and Poyet have clauses in their contracts allowing them to speak to Premiership or Championship clubs that are interested - providing Swindon receive the value of one year's salary of both men in compensation.
Ex-England midfielder Wise took charge at the County Ground in May following Swindon's relegation to League Two and they won their first six league games under him.
Swindon are now third in League Two, three points behind leaders Walsall.
Leeds have been without a manager since sacking Kevin Blackwell in September when coach John Carver took charge on a caretaker basis at Elland Road.
Carver conceded that his chances of landing the job permanently had probably ended with the recent 4-0 home defeat by Stoke
Wise has been continually linked with Leeds after spending many years as a player under United chairman Ken Bates at Chelsea.
He also managed Millwall between October 2003 and May 2005, leading them to the 2004 FA Cup final.

Leeds & Swindon agree Wise deal Leeds have agreed a deal with Swindon allowing them to speak with Robins boss Dennis Wise and his assistant Gus Poyet about their managerial vacancy.
Swindon had earlier announced they had withdrawn permission for talks as Leeds had failed to meet their demands.
But a Leeds statement said: \"Leeds have now been granted permission to discuss personal terms with both Dennis Wise and Gus Poyet.\"
Leeds also announced that caretaker manager John Carver has left the club.
David Geddis, who has been assisting Carver since Kevin Blackwell was sacked, is expected to take charge of Tuesday's Carling Cup tie against Southend.
Meanwhile, Swindon have put Dave Tuttle, who was acting as their Head of Youth and Scouting Director, as their caretaker manager.
The revelations suggest Wise's appointment is close and brings an end to a confusing day during which each club released conflicting statements concerning the negotiations for the former Chelsea midfielder and former team-mate Poyet.
The day began with a statement from Swindon that said they had reluctantly given Leeds permission to speak with Wise and Poyet, who are under contract until 2009.
But a later statement from the Wiltshire side said: \"The club made clear they would only release Dennis and Gus from their contracts if suitable compensation was paid.
\"Regrettably, it has proven impossible to agree compensation. The club has withdrawn permission for Leeds to talk with or seek to appoint Wise or Poyet.\"
The Robins also revealed they have offered Wise and Poyet improved terms if they stayed at the County Ground.

Williams in talks for Swindon job Swindon have confirmed they are talking to captain Ady Williams about becoming caretaker boss after Dave Tuttle turned down the role.
Tuttle initially accepted the post but has since changed his mind, saying: \"I have given it a lot of thought and decided it's not right.\"
Williams, 35, only joined the club in the summer from Coventry but has made a huge impact as skipper.
He would replace Dennis Wise who remains on the brink of joining Leeds.
Despite turning down the caretaker role, Tuttle insists he wants to stay at the club.
\"I am committed to Swindon and want to continue developing my current role with the youth team and scouting,\" he added.
Swindon's acting chief executive Martyn Stames said Tuttle had the \"full backing of everyone at the club\".
He added: \"He has done a fantastic job since joining the club and we look forward to him continuing in that role.\"

Hunter named Williams' assistant Swindon have named former Rushden & Diamonds boss Barry Hunter as assistant to caretaker manager Ady Williams.
Williams was placed in temporary charge on Tuesday following the departure of Dennis Wise and his assistant Gustavo Poyet to Championship strugglers Leeds.
Hunter, 37, who was dismissed by Rushden towards the end of last season, has been called on to help his former Reading team-mate on a temporary basis.
\"I am pleased to be here and just want to get started,\" Hunter said.
\"It's a good squad, a great stadium and a club with a fantastic following and I'm looking forward to the challenge.
\"Despite being caretaker manager Ady will be playing in the games so I'll be an extra pair of eyes on the sidelines and hopefully I'll be able to give him some help.\"

Swindon striker Lee Peacock had the first effort on goal in the 11th minute, but he shot high and wide.
