Stoke 1 QPR 2 :)
Sambegou Bangoura scored his sixth goal in five Coca-Cola Championship matches but he could not prevent 10-man Stoke's miserable home record continuing as they crashed to QPR. The summer signing from Standard Liege nodded home after Paul Furlong's early opener set the scene for an entertaining Coca-Cola Championship encounter. But Richard Langley secured the points for Ian Holloway's side with a penalty after John Halls was dismissed. The visitors went into the match on the back of a five-match winless run but their chances of bucking that trend looked good after Paul Furlong opened the scoring with just over a minute gone. The veteran striker was quickest to react when the home defence failed to clear Danny Shittu's long free-kick and prodded the ball home from 12 yards. Only bottom club Millwall have lost more home games than the Potters and Peter Sweeney, making his first start since arriving at the Britannia Stadium from the Lions in the summer, should have done better with a volley that drifted wide midway through the first half. But Sweeney was keen to show his manager Johan Boskamp what he had been missing and set up the equaliser for Bangoura with 25 minutes gone. Langley's foul on Luke Chadwick allowed Sweeney to send in a free-kick from the right and Bangoura planted his header past goalkeeper Simon Royce. Furlong headed wide as QPR went in search of a quick reply before Sweeney's effort was blocked by Marcus Bignot at the other end as both teams tried, without success, to get their noses in front before the break. It all went wrong for the hosts just after the restart as Steve Simonsen could only parry Martin Rowland's drive and as players from both sides went for the loose ball referee Andre Marriner spotted an infringement and showed Halls the red card. Langley stepped forward and took the resulting penalty, making no mistake with 52 minutes on the clock. The visitors shut up shop after going ahead and chances were few and far between although Bangoura almost doubled his own tally in spectacular fashion with an overhead kick that Royce was able to hold. Langley was also keen to bag a brace and he curled an effort just wide of the target with 10 minutes left before Marcus Bean's drilled effort was blocked by Marlon Broomes late on.
