SPL signs record television deal
The Scottish Premier League has agreed a two-year extension to its live television deal with Setanta Sports.
The new deal runs until the end of season 2009/10 and is worth £54.5m over the next four years.
In addition to the current 38-match deal, Setanta will show 22 games featuring teams outwith the Old Firm.
"This deal is the biggest in the history of Scottish football and (is) a very welcome boost for our clubs," said SPL executive chairman Lex Gold.
"It is no secret that a number of our clubs have faced a tough time financially. It also answers the call from supporters for more coverage of games that do not involve the Old Firm.
"It is a good day for the SPL, our clubs and their supporters, Setanta Sports and for Scottish football."
