Southend Utd Barrett wants new Southend deal
Southend United defender Adam Barrett says he wants to sign an extended deal with his hometown club.
The 25-year-old still has a year left on the contract he signed last summer when he joined from Bristol Rovers.
Barrett told the club's website: "I definitely want to stay here for longer, there's no question about that.
"I love it at Southend, everyone knows what the club means to me and I want to play a part in getting this club back into the Championship."

Atkins wants Southend duo - agent Bristol Rovers want to sign striker Lawrie Dudfield, 25, and midfielder Jay Smith, 23, from Southend, according to Dudfield's agent Richard Cody.
Dudfield and Smith have both rejected offers of new contracts.
"I am in negotiations with Rovers about Lawrie. They started some time ago. Ian Atkins is also monitoring Jay," Cody told Southend's official website.
"Lawrie is only interested in a club with potential and quality and Ian Atkins' interest excites us."

Eastwood not for sale - Southend Southend insist star striker Freddy Eastwood will not be joining Brighton, Nottingham Forest or any other club.
The 21-year-old, whose 24 goals helped the Shrimpers win promotion, has been tipped to leave Roots Hall this summer.
But deputy chairman Geoffrey King said: "He is not for sale. I had two calls within 10 minutes saying offers of £500,000 and £750,000 had been made.
"At that rate, it could have reached £1m. Neither offer had been made and, as I say, he is not for sale."
Eastwood himself has ruled out joining Forest, saying: "If I did leave, it would be for a Premiership or Championship side."

Flahavan agrees new Southend deal Southend keeper Darryl Flahavan has rejected offers from a host of other clubs to agree a new two-year deal.
Bristol Rovers, Grimsby, Northampton and Rushden & Diamonds were all keen on signing the 27-year-old shot-stopper.
Flahavan was impressive at the back end of last season, three clean sheets in a row helping the Shrimpers win promotion to League One via the play-offs.
He said: "I had offers to go elsewhere but Southend was always my number one option. I really enjoy it here."

Wright chases Southend strike duo Peterborough manager Mark Wright has been in talks with Southend strikers Tes Bramble and Lawrie Dudfield about bringing them to London Road.
Bramble, 24, has been released by the Shrimpers while Dudfield, 25, is also a summer target for Bristol Rovers.
Posh's director of football Barry Fry told the Evening Telegraph: "Mark has been speaking to lots of agents.
"Bramble and Dudfield are two of his transfer targets but he hasn't reached an agreement with either player yet."

Wilson set to commit to Southend Southend defender Che Wilson is close to signing a new deal at the club.
The 26-year-old, a regular last season as Southend won promotion, rejected the club's initial offer but is now poised to sign a new 12-month deal.
"Things have been sorted with Che and it looks like he will be staying, which is great news," assistant boss Paul Brush told the club's website.
"He had a very good, solid season last year and it will be good to get him signed again."

Stockport snap up striker Bramble Stockport County have won the race to sign former Southend United striker Tes Bramble following their relegation.
The 24-year-old, who had also interested Rochdale and Lincoln, has agreed a two-year deal at Edgeley Park.
Bramble, who began his career with Chelmsford and Cambridge City, was released by Southend after scoring 40 goals in four years at Roots Hall.
He ended last season's campaign on loan with Cambridge United, where he scored three times in nine games.

Maher confident for new campaign Not sure Al??
Southend captain Kevin Maher says his newly-promoted side are more than capable of making the step up in class in League One for the coming season.
The play-off winners insist they are not there just to make up the numbers.
He said: "We worked hard to get out of League Two and don't want to throw all that away by coming straight back down.
"I'm confident we will be able to hold our own - we all are. It's a step up in quality but we're looking forward to that," he told the club's website.

Shrimpers boss targeting striker Southend boss Steve Tilson is desperate to bring in a new striker before pre-season training starts next week.
The Shrimpers only have Freddy Eastwood and Wayne Gray currently under contract up front - after missing out on Lloyd Owusu, who joined Brentford.
Tilson said: "I have a shortlist of three who I am interested in signing.
"I will be meeting one of them this week for the first time but I won't be given much away on who it is because I don't want to alert other clubs."

Dudfield casts doubts over future Striker Lawrie Dudfield's future at Southend is in doubt after turning down the offer of a one-year deal.
Dudfield, 25, has attracted interest from Peterborough and Bristol Rovers, but would prefer to stay at Roots Hall if he gets the right offer.
He told Southend's website: "I'll have to wait and see what happens but right now I'm not sure what the future holds.
"It's a weird situation and a new experience as I've never had my contract run out before."

Martin named Shrimpers chairman Ron Martin has become Southend's first chairman since John Main left the position five years ago.
Martin, previously a major shareholder at the club, was elected to the position as all other shareholders had no objection to him taking on the role.
"The board have wanted this for a while now," Martin said. "They do a lot of good work for the club and I'm proud to be the chairman."
Martin also revealed the club's plans for a new stadium are still ongoing.

Beeks is elected to League board Wycombe chairman Ivor Beeks has been elected as League Two's new representative on the Football League's board of directors.
He was voted in ahead of Macclesfield chairman Rob Bickerton and Mansfield chief Keith Haslam.
Beeks replaces Southend chairman Ron Martin, who steps down from the board after their promotion to League One.
"I'm happy to represent the other clubs of the league to the best of my ability," he told Wycombe's website.
The League's eight-man board contains six representatives from the 72 League clubs, as well as League chairman Lord Mawhinney and independent non-executive director Ian Ritchie.
The Championship has three representatives - David Sheepshanks (Ipswich), Theo Paphitis (Millwall) and Terry Robinson (Sheffield United).
League One's clubs are represented by Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston and Colchester's Peter Heard - while Beeks is League Two's sole representative.

Southend fail in bid for Goater Southend manager Steve Tilson has revealed Reading striker Shaun Goater turned down the chance to join them.
Tilson was keen on bringing the 35-year-old to Roots Hall ahead of their League One campaign.
"Shaun was someone we were looking at," Tilson said. "He has a very good record and would have done a good job for us.
"But he wants to carry on playing in the Championship and doesn't want to drop down into League One, which is a shame from our point of view."
The Bermuda international is vastly experienced, having played for the likes of Rotherham, Bristol City, Manchester City and Coventry.

Southend withdraw Nicolau offer Southend United have withdrawn their contract offer to Nicky Nicolau, reports BBC Essex.
The Blues offered the left-sided player a new deal after Nicolau helped them to promotion to League One.
But five weeks since that offer was made no agreement has been reached and Southend have told Nicolau's agent they are withdrawing the contract.
The 21-year-old, who arrived at Roots Hall from Arsenal, is believed to be wanted by Swindon Town.
