Tilson relieved to grind out win
Southend United manager Steve Tilson admitted his team were under-par in their victory over Yeovil.
The Blues have moved up to seventh in League One following their 2-1 win, their fourth in a row.
But Tilson admitted to BBC Essex: " just glad to get the three points, we didn't play well and I've got to be honest enough to say that.
"We were poor but the signs of a good side are when you can play badly and still get a result."
Despite their recent run of form, which has seen them rise up the table after a slow start to the season, Tilson would not allow himself to get too carried away.
"It doesn't even itself out until probably 12 or 15 games," he said.
"Even now if you lose two or three on the bounce, all of a sudden you're in the bottom six.
"It's important that we keep picking as many points up as we can in these 12 or 15 games and then hopefully push on from there."
Derbies are no different - Tilson
Southend United manager Steve Tilson said he was not treating the Essex derby any differently, but knew how important the clash was to fans.
The Blues host rivals Colchester United at Roots Hall on Saturday.
Tilson told BBC Essex: "It makes no difference to me, but obviously it's one the crowd want to win, and it's one I want to win.
"The last couple (of Essex derbies) have been a bit fiery. It's going to be 100 miles-per-hour to start with."
The match is the last of Jean-Francois Christophe's loan spell with the League One club.
But Tilson is keen to keep the Portsmouth midfielder at Roots Hall for longer.
"His second month is up and we'd like to keep him for another month and we'll go from there.
" He's got a great desire for the game and a fantastic attitude."
The Blues will be without striker Dougie Freedman for the clash and Lee Barnard is doubtful with a hamstring injury.
Draw was fair result, says Tilson
Southend manager Steve Tilson says the 3-3 draw in Saturday's Essex derby with Colchester was a fair result.
The Shrimpers levelled the score with an injury-time header from Jean-Francois Christophe.
Tilson told BBC Essex: "It was an entertaining game and on balance a fair result. We had a bit of luck and played to the final whistle.
"I'm pleased we got the point, but I'm disappointed that from two goals up, the way we played lost that advantage."
Southend sit ninth in League One with Saturday's draw continuing a good run including victory over second-placed Leeds. The South Essex club have only lost once in their last 10 matches.
Christophe extends Southend stay
Southend United have extended the loan of Portsmouth midfielder Jean-Francois Christophe for a third and final month.
The new deal, which runs out on 8 December, will see the Frenchman stay at Roots Hall for the maximum permitted 93 days.
The 21-year-old has scored two goals in 13 appearances for the Blues, including a last-gasp equaliser in Saturday's FA Cup first round tie at AFC Telford.
Southend boss Steve Tilson hopes to sign Christophe permanently in January.
Tilson sure Southend can improve
Southend United manager Steve Tilson is confident his side can reverse their poor run of form.
Saturday's 1-0 defeat at home to Yeovil leaves the Shrimpers lying 17th in League One having picked up just four points from their last eight games.
Tilson told Radio Essex: "With injuries and suspensions you can't ever get a settled side.
"But there were enough positives there to know we're certainly good enough to be middle of the table."
Southend will attempt to pick up their first win since Boxing Day on Tuesday when they travel to Elland Road to meet Leeds United.
Tilson predicts open derby clash
Southend boss Steve Tilson believes their derby match with Colchester has come just at the right time for them.
The Shrimpers head into Saturday's game on the back of a disappointing defeat to Crewe on Tuesday.
But Tilson told BBC Essex: "The lads are going to be up for it and it will be a totally different game to Crewe.
"I'm sure Colchester will come out and being at home will look for all three points, so there'll be a lot more space for us to play than on Tuesday."
"It's a big game for us and it's a good game after Crewe and something we can get our teeth into," he added.
Both teams are coming into the game off the back of a defeat, but with just five points separating the two Tilson says both have got plenty to play for.
"It's a big game for both sides in probably different ways - they're looking to get in the play-offs and looking to get three points to push ourselves nearer that 50 point mark," he explained.
