Portsmouth have been linked with a surprise move for Queens Park Rangers midfielder Marc Bircham who has been transfer-listed at Loftus Road.
Pompey boss Harry Redknapp has confirmed he is looking to beef up his squad and has cash to spend this summer, but a move for Bircham would be a surprise.
The midfielder has been told he can leave QPR if the right offer comes in this summer and he was left behind when the Rangers first-team squad departed for Italy last week.
Bircham has just 12 months left on his current contract and has been linked with moves to Sheffield United and Swansea, but he would jump at the chance of a switch to the Premiership.
However Pompey have snapped up David Thompson and already have Sean Davis, Richard Hughes and Pedro Mendes in midfield and are unlikely to join the chase for Bircham.
