Roy Wegerle
SKILFUL forward who played in two World Cups (1994 and 1998) for the US. Kicked off his English career at Chelsea in 1986, but moved on to Luton two years later. His stock rose rapidly after that, and he was transferred to QPR for £1 million in December 1989.
Blossomed at QPR, finishing 1991-92 as third-top scorer in Division 1 (pre-Premier League). But the arrival of Gerry Francis as QPR manager saw Wegerle exit for Blackburn. Returned to the US league in 1996 and retired in 1998. Tried his hand at pro golf, with little success.
