Millers make move for Robertson Mick Harford is poised to make his first signing as Rotherham boss after agreeing a deal with Gregor Robertson. The Scotland Under-21 utility man will sign on a free transfer from Nottingham Forest, subject to a medical, when his contract expires at the end of June. Robertson, 21, can operate at left-back or on the left of midfield and will add much-needed steel to the Millers squad. Harford told the club website: "Gregor is strong, athletic and is the kind of young, mobile player I am looking for."

Garner agrees move to Plainmoor
Former Rotherham midfielder Darren Garner has agreed a one-year contract with Torquay, with an option of a second year at Plainmoor. The 33-year-old Plymouth-born player ended last season on loan with the Gulls, and has since left the Millers. Meanwhile, midfielder Martin Phillips, 29, is set to put pen to paper on a new two-year deal to stay with Torquay. But right-back Lee Canoville, 24, has left the club to sign a two-year contract with Boston.

Millers keeper set for Wigan move
Wigan have agreed an undisclosed fee with Rotherham for keeper Mike Pollitt. Pollitt, 33, who has spent the last four years at Millmoor, will move to the JJB Stadium if he can agree personal terms with the Latics. Millers boss Mick Harford said: "It is now just a matter of Mike going to Wigan and thrashing a deal out. "He has been fantastic to this club. He has a great attitude and he deserves his opportunity to play in the Premier League. He is a very good goalkeeper." Pollitt had also been targeted by Oldham manager Ronnie Moore, who had been his boss at Millmoor.

Millers boss moves for Williamson
Rotherham boss Mick Harford is to make Northampton midfielder Lee Williamson his second signing since taking over as Millers boss at the end of last season. The 23-year-old former Mansfield Town player will move to Millmoor on a free transfer at the start of July. Meanwhile, Northampton have signed utility player Jason Crowe after he rejected a new deal from Grimsby Town. The 26-year-old former Portsmouth player has agreed a two-year deal at the Sixfields Stadium

McIntosh and Hudson join Terriers
Huddersfield have signed Rotherham defender Martin McIntosh and former Chesterfield midfielder Mark Hudson. The duo have joined the Terriers on two-year deals to complete boss Peter Jackson's summer squad strengthening. McIntosh, 34, leaves Rotherham after a four-year stay at Millmoor, which saw the centre-back captain the club and start 132 games, scoring 16 times. Hudson, 24, left Chesterfield after more than two years at Saltergate following a move from Middlesbrough.

Wigan snap up goalkeeper Pollitt
Wigan have completed their first signing since winning promotion to the Premiership with the capture of keeper Mike Pollitt from Rotherham United. The 33-year-old custodian has joined the Latics on a two-year deal for a fee believed to be about £200,000. "I'm delighted to have completed this deal and I'm really looking forward to mixing it in the Premiership this season," Pollitt told their website. "In John Filan they have a top class keeper but I'll fight for my place." Pollitt started his career with Manchester United in 1988 after signing as an apprentice, but was never given a chance at Old Trafford.

Millers new stand given go-ahead
Rotherham United have been given the go-ahead to build their new main stand. The breakthrough came after protracted talks with the Football Stadia Improvement Fund who will be paying for part of the redevelopment. Work is due to start shortly after the formalities and if everything goes to plan, the old stand should be demolished this by the end of July. It is hoped that the work on the stand which will cost £4m can be finished by February of next year.

Oldham recruit defender Swailes
Defender Chris Swailes has become Oldham's 10th new signing of the summer, after agreeing a settlement on his contract with Rotherham. The 34-year-old has signed a two-year contract, linking up again with former Millers manager Ronnie Moore. He told Oldham's website."Ronnie has taken Rotherham out of this division before, so he knows what's required." Swailes will train with coach Tony Philliskirk while the other players are on their pre-season trip to Ibiza. He made 184 appearances in four years with the Millers after spells with Doncaster, Ipswich and Bury. Rotherham are now on the lookout for a new defender, following the departures of Swailes and Huddersfield-bound Martin McIntosh.

Rotherham snap up defensive trio
Rotherham United have swooped to sign three new defenders as they begin life in League One following relegation, reports BBC Radio Sheffield. Northern Ireland International centre-half Colin Murdock, 30, has joined from Crewe Alexandra. David Worrell, 27, is making the move to Millmoor after being released by Championship side Plymouth Argyle. And 22-year-old full-back Jon Otsemobor has signed from Liverpool after loan spells with Hull, Bolton and Crewe.

Monkhouse pens new Rotherham deal
Rotherham United striker Andy Monkhouse has signed a new one-year deal. The 24-year-old has been hampered by injuries in the last year and as a result was only able to make 15 first team appearances in the 2004/05 season. Monkhouse, who was a trainee at Millmoor, suffered a micro fracture to his left knee and needed an operation earlier this year. "When he is ready to play again it will be like having a new signing," manager Mick Harford told the club website.

Hartlepool sign striker Proctor
Hartlepool boss Martin Scott has strengthened his strikeforce ahead of the new League One campaign by signing Michael Proctor. The striker is joining Hartlepool United on a free transfer. The 24-year-old forward played for Rotherham last season but could not prevent the Millers from being relegated from the Championship. Proctor scored eight goals in 47 league and cup appearances during his time the Millmoor club.

Burton makes switch to Rotherham
Rotherham have completed their sixth signing of the close season with Deon Burton moving to Millmoor on a free transfer, report BBC Radio Sheffield. The former Portsmouth and Derby County striker is joining the Millers on a two-year contract. The 29-year-old played for Brentford in League One last season and helped them to the play-off final where they lost to Sheffield Wednesday. Burton scored 10 goals for the Bees in 38 starts.

Millers name Murdock as captain
Rotherham United have appointed Colin Murdock as their new club captain. The 30-year-old Northern Ireland central defender joined the Millers earlier this month from Crewe. Millers boss Mick Harford told the club website: "He was a natural choice because he is an experienced player who has played at the highest level. "I am sure he will be a good leader especially as we have several much younger players and Colin is a good talker so he will help them along."

Chesterfield 0-1 Rotherham
Rotherham earned their first victory of the season thanks to Martin Butler's solitary strike at Chesterfield. Butler struck just before the hour mark, rounding off a superb five-man passing move to give Mick Harford his first win as Millers' manager. Butler could have scored another but he dragged badly wide, while Deon Burton headed into the side-netting. Rotherham 3-1 Port Vale
Mick Harford secured his first home win as Rotherham boss in their Carling Cup opener against Port Vale. His side went ahead four minutes before the break following a Steve Rowland own goal from a Jon Otsemobor cross. But Michael Cummins headed home a pass from Craig James to level proceedings on the stroke of half-time.
