Ridgewell pulls out of U21 squad
Aston Villa defender Liam Ridgewell has been forced out of the England Under-21 squad because of a knee injury. England face Austria at Elland Road on Friday and they complete their Group Six fixtures at Hillsborough four days later against Poland. Camp relishing Under-21 challenge
Lee Camp insists England will not rest on their laurels against Austria and Poland despite reaching the Under-21 European championship play-offs. The final games of the qualifying phase will determine if England or Germany finish top and earn a favourable draw in November's two-legged play-offs. "If you win the group you play one of the runners-up. It would be nice to finish top," the keeper told Sir Stanley. "Sometimes it has a psychological edge on the other team." Peter Taylor's England squad are locked on 18 points with Germany going into the final two games - although the Germans edge ahead on away goals when head-to-head records are taken into account. Germany are guaranteed top spot if they win their final two matches, but if they do not, England will move ahead if they take maximum points from their final two games. England play Austria at Elland Road on Friday 7 October before taking on Poland at Hillsbrough four days later. Brown will deal with Camp dispute And Camp, who is behind Scott Carson in the pecking order for a starting place, has the opportunity to get away from the pressures of club football, after being dropped at Derby, and enjoy a week with the Under-21s. "The team's gelled really well," he added. "Peter Taylor's got good staff around him and he's a breath of fresh air. "He gives me stick because he doesn't really like goalkeepers. You can have banter with him, he gets on really well with the boys and he's well respected. "The training's good, which always helps when you're away, and while he's quite light-hearted, when there's a time for the business to be done he works a good balance. "They'll be two tough games and the manager's made it quite clear that he wants to win the group, as he showed in Germany where he played a strong team and went to win the game." England earned a 1-1 draw in Mainz and Taylor has said he expects it "to go right to the wire" with Germany hosting Wales before rounding of the qualifying stage with a trip to Austria.
