Rep admits dive to sink 78 Scots.......so what!!!
Ex-Holland star Johnny Rep has admitted to the dive which helped to eliminate Scotland from the 1978 World Cup.
Scotland needed to defeat the Dutch by three goals but fell short, winning a famous match 3-2 in Mendoza, Argentina.
In a new book '78: How a Nation Lost the World Cup', Rep said: "I dare to admit now, that after half-an-hour I committed a schwalbe (a show - a dive).
"This action caused a penalty-kick from which Rob Rensenbrink scored to make it 1-0."
After defeat by Peru and a draw with Iran, Scotland had suffered a disastrous start to the campaign under manager Ally McLeod.
And the slim chance of progressing was dented when, after a Kenny Dalglish strike had been ruled offside, Rep went to ground.
The Scots fought back heroically and, following Archie Gemmill's sublime strike, they led 3-1 before Rep himself struck from long range.
Holland went on to reach the World Cup final where they were beaten by 3-1 hosts Argentina in extra time.
