Renault F1 boss Briatore confirms offer for QPR
Renault boss Flavio Briatore has said he is getting together with a "group of friends" to buy English Championship side Queens Park Rangers, sports daily Marca reported Tuesday.
"With a group of friends we have made an offer as there was an opportunity to do so," Marca quoted Briatore as saying.
British media reports said earlier this month that QPR were up for sale at around 30 million euros (41 million dollars) with current Italian owner Gianni Paladini reportedly in financial difficulties.
Briatore, while suggesting no deal has yet emerged, says he has been looking for the chance to "do something in football".
Paladini said: "If the operation goes ahead it will be a dream come true for our supporters. It will save the club from liquidation. Briatore wants to do with QPR what (Mohamed) Al Fayed did with Fulham and get us back to the Premier League.
Briatore, 55, has a fortune estimated at 150 million euros and a spokesman for him said recently that he wanted to become involved in football at QPR which "has a rich past and a promising future"
