Real end Diarra/Huntelaar appeal
Real Madrid have ended their appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas) to register two new signings for the Champions League. Real wanted Lassana Diarra and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar available for their last 16 clash with Liverpool in February. But both Diarra (Portsmouth) and Huntelaar (Ajax) have played in the Uefa Cup already this season. Real will, however, be allowed to chose one of the pair to register under existing Uefa rules. Uefa twice turned down Real's appeal for the two players to be added to the list, the club in turn launching an appeal to Cas to overturn the ruling. But the Spanish side have ended their attempts to add both players to their squad for the knockout stages and will now have to pick one, Uefa rules allowing clubs to add one player who has played in a different European competition.
