QPR prepare £1.5m bid for Danny Simpson
QPR have made a swoop for Newcastle United right-back Danny Simpson.
The newly-promoted Premier League club are ready to offer £1.5 million for the 24-year-old, who is currently locked in contract talks with Newcastle.
Simpson has two years to run on his contract and is weighing up the offer of a new five-year deal that would tie him to St James’ Park until 2016.
QPR made a recent enquiry for the defender, who is highly rated by manager Neil Warnock and is viewed as the kind of Premier League-calibre player who can be relied upon in the club’s return to the top-flight next season.
Simpson has established himself as Newcastle’s first-choice right-back over the last two seasons after initially impressing in a loan spell with the club.
The Manchester United academy graduate, who made only three first-team appearances at Old Trafford before loan spells with Royal Antwerp, Sunderland, Ipswich Town and Blackburn Rovers, has been tipped as a future England international in some quarters.
