QPR favourites to sign Leeds Utd’s Beckford
Todays news that the prolific striker Jermain Beckford has refused to sign a new contract has put a host of Championship sides on the alert.
He is expected to be sold for just £2m as he enters the last year of his contract, and Newcastle and QPR are the first names being bandied about as possible destinations.
Newcastle, with Alan Shearer in charge for next season, is expected to give him his big chance to prove himself in the higher division, with a chance of moving up to the Premiership next season.
QPR are also looking at adding some English backbone to a mostly foreign side and could easily afford to bring Beckford to Loftus Road. They will also be hoping to challenge for promotion next season after a very disappointing season. The millionaire owners have not been spending the billions that were expected last summer.
There will be much speculation in the coming weeks, but Beckford himself would jump at the chance to join Newcastle
