QPR & Barnsley to watch Thompson
Linfield's Peter Thompson will be watched by the managers of QPR and Barnsley in Tuesday's County Antrim Shield semi-final against Glentoran. QPR boss Ian Holloway and Barnsley manager Andy Ritchie will travel to Belfast for the Windsor Park game. Linfield boss David Jeffrey has insisted that he will not allow the player to go on trial with any club. "If anybody wants him, they can make up their minds by watching him out on the pitch," said Jeffrey. However, the Blues boss Jeffrey has said that the club will not stand in the way of any player who wants to move to full-time football. Linfield turned down a bid from Scottish Division Two club Gretna for Thompson earlier this month. Thompson's goalscoring exploits have attracted the attention of several clubs in Scotland and England, although Gretna have been the only club to make an official bid. In November, the 21-year-old postman from east Belfast was called up by Northern Ireland manager Lawrie Sanchez, making his international debut in the friendly against Portugal. Blues boss Jeffrey said Linfield would not stand in the way of any player who wanted to move to full-time football.

QPR mull over move for Thompson
QPR boss Ian Holloway is mulling over whether to make a move for Linfield striker Peter Thompson after watching the player in action on Tuesday night. After watching Linfield's 1-0 County Antrim Shield win over Glentoran, Holloway told Sir Stanley that Thompson "looks a very good player". "The lad was neat and tidy and worked his socks off. "Now I've got to think about the state of my club and whether we've got the finance and what we can do." Barnsley manager Andy Ritchie also travelled to Belfast to watch Thompson in Tuesday's game. Linfield turn down Gretna proposal for Thompson
LinfieldFC.com can exclusively reveal that Gretna have put in a bid for Linfield striker Peter Thompson. The Blues however have described the Scottish side’s initial bid as “derisory”. Speaking to LinfieldFC.com moments ago, Linfield Manager David Jeffrey revealed that the bid for Thompson was an initial payment of £50,000 plus a number of condition-based payments. DJ told Sir Stanley that: “Linfield Football Club would never prevent any of our players making the move into full time football, however we must be realistic. Gretna’s initial bid is below the level we would expect for a player of Peter’s quality and potential. Eight years ago we paid £55,000 for Glenn Ferguson and look at England where Gareth McAuley is valued at £150,000. This initial bid of Gretna’s is derisory, because we believe that it seriously undervalues Peter as a player. Should Peter leave to go to another club, Linfield must then replace him and for a player of that quality, it isn’t going to come cheap. Peter has been informed of the move by Gretna, and has stated that he is enjoying playing for Linfield. He understands that an offer which may be acceptable to Linfield may eventually come in, but he has said that the offer will also have to be right for him.”
