QPR 1-1 Nottingham Forest
David McGoldrick's second-half strike earned Nottingham Forest a battling point from a 1-1 draw at QPR, on an afternoon when their defensive frailty and attacking power were demonstrated in equal measure.
The striker supplied an emphatic finish to draw the Reds level in the 58th minute and earn Billy Davies' side a deserved share of the spoils.
But, while they had plenty of chances to claim all three points, they could also have suffered a third consecutive defeat, had the home side – who had gone ahead through an impressive strike from Mikele Leigertwood - converted any of their own numerous opportunities.
Forest almost made the dream start as a flowing move saw firstly Dele Adebola and then David McGoldrick flick the ball on to send Radoslaw Majewski scampering through the centre.
But, with Radek Cerny quick off his line, the Pole was denied by a smart save, before the keeper then regained his feet smartly to block for a second time as Joe Garner pounced on the rebound to flash the ball venomously towards the near post.
A moment of hesitant defending almost cost Forest dear as Leigertwood was allowed the room to strike a shot from the edge of the box, but the Hoops midfielder fired wildly over.
Majewski then showed incisive vision to slide the ball to McGoldrick in the box, where the striker flashed a shot narrowly wide.
Forest's defending was equally questionable however, with Adel Taarabt left in acres of space in the box as the ball was zipped in from the right, only for the winger to send a panicked shot wide of the post, while Gary Borrowdale was equally poor in applying the finish from an identical chance.
With Forest looking shaky, it was no surprise when the home side fired themselves into the lead, as Leigertwood curled a precise, angled shot from the right side of the box which, despite a slight touch from Lee Camp, nestled high in the corner of the net.
A towering header from Wes Morgan grazed the top of the bar as Forest searched for an equaliser, while a Majewski free-kick was superbly saved by Cerny, as it threatened to fly into the bottom corner from 25 yards.
The second half began with Alessandro Pellicori rifling a shot into the side netting from an angle.
Meanwhile, at the other end, Cerny took two attempts to hold a skimming low shot from Cohen that initially bounced from his grasp.
Camp, returning to his former club, had one nervous moment as he raced from his box to head clear as Heidar Helguson threatened to burst through.
But the keeper then had an assist in Forest's equalising goal, as his lofted pass down the centre of the pitch was simply flicked on by Adebola.
McGoldrick initially looked to have carried the ball too far as he burst into the box but, with Cerny advancing, he stretched out his right boot to lift a high finish powerfully home.
QPR responded with a spell of increasing pressure, with Camp again saving well to push away a free-kick from Alejandro Faurlin.
But Majewski also came close for Forest with a shot that flashed across the face of goal, while Garner got his laces behind a rising shot that arrowed only narrowly wide.
Former Hoop Dexter Blackstock then came close to netting with his first touch after coming off the bench, clipping the ball over the advancing Cerny as he collected a flick from McGoldrick, but then seeing Kaspers Gorkss intervene with a vital challenge before he could force the ball home.
