Benitez haunted by Koeman memory
Rafael Benitez is hoping Ronald Koeman fails to do the double over him as Liverpool prepare to face PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League on Tuesday. The Reds were dumped out of the previous season's competition by coach Koeman's Benfica. \"PSV are strong, experienced and with an experienced manager,\" said Liverpool boss Benitez. \"I remember Benfica when Koeman was there. They beat us last season and we need to rectify that memory.\" The Spaniard added: \"The group is dangerous, Bordeaux and Galatasaray are both good sides. \"If we play like we did last season that qualification is achievable but we need to solve our problems.\" Benitez revealed he was still smarting from Saturday's 3-0 derby defeat by Everton and was calling on his players to bounce back. \"Obviously, if you want to change things you need to play again and to win. It's as simple as that,\" he said. \"I hope I don't see a lot of mistakes - at least in our team. Always as a manager you think you can improve and I think you will see a lot of positive things.\" Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina was singled out for criticism by some of the press following the loss to Everton but Benitez did not want to pour blame on the Spain international. \"Pepe kept 33 clean sheets last season and was fantastic,\" said the Liverpool boss. \"He took the clean sheets record from Ray Clemence, so I have a lot of confidence in him. \"Ask our fans who has been the best Liverpool keeper of all time and they would say Ray Clemence, so that says a lot about Reina. \"I do not want to blame individual players, there were others too who made mistakes and also the manager.\" PSV boss Koeman said he was looking for a repeat of the success he had over the Anfield side last year. \"Liverpool are a strong side and they must be favourites to win the group,\" said Koeman. \"But when I was at Benfica we beat them so they will probably respect myself and PSV Eindhoven.\"
