New Posh coach focused on defence
Peterborough boss Keith Alexander feels one of the most important jobs of new first team coach Tommy Taylor is to help his defence tighten up. \"He was a good defender who played for good sides. He's an FA Cup winner and we'll use his experience,\" Alexander told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire. \"We have been letting in sloppy goals so that is the area that he will focus on to start with. \"He will begin work with players on the training ground on Tuesday.\"

Peterborough are set to welcome back winger Adam Newton who has missed the last two games with a calf injury. On-loan Coventry duo Liam Davis and Ben Turner have been given permission to play in the competition. Peterborough United striker Simon Yeo is to step up his comeback from injury in a friendly on Wednesday. Midfielder Jamie Day is still out after a freak training-ground accident but winger Adam Newton and defender Guy Branston return from suspensions. Chester boss Mark Wright has no fresh injury concerns. Defender Sean Hessey missed training at the end of the week with illness, making him a minor doubt, but he should still be available.

Posh sign stop-gap keeper on loan
Peterborough have signed Huddersfield goalkeeper Paul Rachubka on a seven-day emergency loan. The former Manchester United stopper, 25, will go straight into the squad for Posh's meeting with Lincoln. Posh were granted permission to sign Rachubka by the Football League after Mark Tyler's ankle injury left them short of goalkeeping cover. Former first-choice at Huddersfield, Rachubka fell down the pecking order due to Matt Glennon's form.

Barnet 1-0 Peterborough
Adam Birchall clinched a third successive win for Barnet. He struck after 13 minutes when Nicky Bailey released Barry Cogan and his cross found Birchall who turned before firing past Posh keeper Paul Rachubka. Barnet should have gone in at 2-0 up, Dean Sinclair failing to hit the target when put through in stoppage-time. Liam Hatch should have sealed it at the end, but he completely missed his kick from Birchall's cross as Barnet failed to win by a bigger margin. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Barnet: Flitney, Bailey, King, Gross (Charles 31), Sinclair, Graham, Yakubu, Devera, Puncheon (Hatch 87), Cogan, Birchall. Boyd moves to Posh in record deal
Peterborough United have clinched the signing of Stevenage midfielder George Boyd for a Conference record transfer fee of £260,000. The 21-year-old, who has scored eight goals for Stevenage this season, will join Peterborough on 8 January. \"George is highly rated and has been extremely sought-after,\" Peterborough director of football Barry Fry told the club's official website. \"We're delighted to secure his services. He's an exciting prospect.\" Boyd has made more than 100 first-team starts for Stevenage, and has been attracting attention from Football League clubs since July 2005. Stevenage chairman Phil Wallace, who turned down an offer from the same club before Christmas, said he had little choice but to let Boyd leave once Posh had agreed to pay the asking price. \"We promised George that if the right offer came in and he wanted to go we wouldn't stand in his way,\" he told Stevenage's official website. \"Peterborough have made George a fantastic offer which he wants to accept and they've met our valuation so we have to keep our promise, and allow him to move on and test himself against League opposition. \"We can't keep denying a youngster his chance of playing in the League or nobody would ever sign for us again.\" Stevenage signed former Tottenham trainee Jamie Slabber last week, and the 22-year-old could make his debut against Aldershot.

Falkirk sign Posh defender Holden
Falkirk have signed 27-year-old right-back Dean Holden from Peterborough for an undisclosed fee. Holden passed a medical but is unavailable for Monday's meeting with Dundee United as his registration has not come through from the English FA. Falkirk head coach John Hughes told his club website: \"We have been tracking the player for some time. \"He fits the bill as player who is a real leader on and off the park and he comes to us at the peak of his career.\" Holden began his career with Bolton Wanderers, but he only made 21 appearances and moved to Oldham Athletic in 2002 after a successful loan spell. He became a regular at Boundary Park before moving on to Peterborough in June 2005. I \"We are delighted to have concluded business with Peterborough United, where I know he was highly rated,\" said Hughes. \"All my contacts down south have been very complimentary about his ability and character.\" Peterborough director of football Barry Fry accepted that Holden's ambition lay above Coca-Cola League Two. \"Dean Holden has agreed personal terms and completed his medical,\" Fry told his club's official website. \"I offered Dean a new contract several months ago, but he didn't sign. \"And, after speaking to his agent, it was obvious he wanted to play at a higher level. \"We didn't want to stand in his way. I would like to thank Dean for his contribution and wish him all the best in his career. \"He has been a good servant to this football club.\"

Posh departure surprises Holden
Defender Dean Holden admits he was surprised that Peterborough United were willing to sell him to Falkirk. Holden told SSB: \"I had been bought a house in the area and only moved in at the end of August. \"But I am not in a nine to five job and things can change quickly. The club accepted a bid which showed me I was no part of their future plans.\" Holden's contract was due to expire in the summer and had begun the season as Peterborough skipper.
