pearce gets under 21s job!!!!
Pearce will take charge for the first time for next week's friendly with Spain and also lead them at this summer's Uefa Under 21s Championship finals.
The former England international claimed last weekend that he had agreed to succeed Peter Taylor as manager of the Under 21s.
However, the switch was held up because City and The FA had still to ratify the exact terms of his dual role, but now a deal has been thrashed out between all parties.
Pearce has always said he feels he is well capable of coping with both responsibilities and he will be assisted by Newcastle coach Nigel Pearson in the role.
The former Nottingham Forest and Newcastle man was delighted to be handed the honour of leading his country.
"It is a fantastic honour for me," Pearce told The FA's official website.
"I was planning to attend the June tournament for scouting purposes and now I will have an opportunity of getting more out of the competition by working with the best youngsters in this country and pitting my wits against coaches from different nations."
