Owen clarifies Capello comments
England striker Michael Owen has insisted he did not criticise coach Fabio Capello's tactical approach. The Newcastle striker was reportedly quoted as saying he did not know what role he was meant to have had in Wednesday's 1-0 defeat against France. "I've nothing but positive things to say about the new management," said Owen, who came on as a half-time substitute in the Paris friendly. "To make it look like I was criticising was wrong and very disappointing." Owen insisted his remarks were to a question about his role for England in the future. "I was asked a question about how I saw my role in the team now that I hadn't played in two consecutive games and hadn't started," added Owen. "I said 'that's a question you would have to ask the manager'. That's been misconstrued to mean 'you'll have to ask the manager what my role is when I come on to play'. "Of course I knew my role and responsibility and everything else when I came onto the field."
