Sheridan hails Barrow after exit Joint caretaker boss Darren Sheridan was proud of Barrow's players as they narrowly lost 3-2 in extra time in their FA Cup replay at Bournemouth.
"I thought we were the better side - we came to a side three leagues above us and really matched them," he said.
"Nick Rogan got a great equaliser which lifted us, then Jason Walker got the second and I thought 'we've done it'.
"If we'd made it 3-1, the game would have been over. The lads are gutted as they know they deserved more."
Veteran midfielder Sheridan, who turns 40 in early December, is in temporary charge along with defender Dave Bayliss and captain Paul Jones, following the sacking of manager Phil Wilson last week.
"To be fair, Paul has come to me and Dave, and said 'Listen, whenever you want any help, I'll help you out' - but it's me and Dave (in charge) really," explained Sheridan, who started the game but limped off with an ankle injury after 77 minutes.
"I thought it was going to penalties, but you live and learn - it's never over until the whistle goes.
"I fancied us if it went to penalties as we'd beaten Workington on penalties during the week, and (goalkeeper) Tim Deasy's very good with penalties."
Sheridan also praised Barrow's travelling supporters, who faced a 630-mile round trip from Cumbria to Dean Court.
"They've come all that way, and they never shut up all night. They were brilliant," he added.

The 19-year-old wideman will join the Hornets' neighbours in order to play competitive football.
He made the move because Watford's reserves will be out of action until the start of 2008.
Fellow academy graduates Theo Robinson and John-Joe O'Toole spent time on loan with Wealdstone last season.

Chasetown dream on after Cup win Manager Charlie Blakemore said Chasetown were in dreamland after becoming the smallest team ever to reach the FA Cup third round.
The Southern One Midlands side stunned League One Port Vale as Danny Smith's last minute goal sealed a 1-0 win after Vale missed two penalties.
Blakemore told SSB: "I am on cloud nine, 10 and 11. I am so elated I didn't sleep a wink.
"It is an incredible achievement for everyone connected with the club."
Vale captain Luke Rodgers blazed one penalty over the bar and saw the second saved by Chasetown keeper Lee Evans before Smith netted the winner with a diving header.
"You couldn't have written a better script," said Blakemore. "I looked to the sky when the second penalty was saved, thanked the Lord and thought then it was our night.
"There is a real sense of achievement and this will go down in the history of the FA Cup because I have been told we are the lowest ranked club ever to get to the third round."
Chasetown's victory sets up a home third round tie with Cardiff City, giving Wolves fan Blakemore the chance to pit his wits against former Molineux boss Dave Jones.
And Blakemore is determined the mouth-watering clash will be played at the Scholars Ground.
"I definitely want to play it at home," added Blakemore. "If we can play it at the Scholars Ground we should because that's where our home is.
"I can remember watching the FA Cup on Match of the Day as a kid and watching these big clubs going to play on these almost parks pitches. That is what it is all about.
"It will be a logistical issue but I really want to play in front of our own supporters and get the community there again. The whole place is buzzing."
Match winner Smith has come through the ranks at Chasetown and admitted he couldn't believe he had made history.
The student told SSB: "It was the best goal I have ever scored in my life.
"I was sitting on the bench wondering if I would get on, but this was the best outcome.
"It is the best thing I have every felt in my life. People who I have never met in my life were kissing me on the lips."
Of his goal Smith said: "Kyle Perry broke down the left and held his defender off and I ran to the near post, which I don't normally do.
"When the cross came in I just dived forward and connected as best I could and it went into the back of the net. The rest was a bit of a blur."
The 20-year-old said he was looking forward to coming face-to-face with boyhood hero Robbie Fowler.
"It means everything to the club," he added. "To get here was a success but to win at home against Port Vale after drawing with them away is something you dream of.
"To be playing against Robbie Fowler, who was my hero, and Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink in the next round will be amazing."

Gayle praised as Dons go through AFC Wimbledon manager Terry Brown praised Marcus Gayle after the veteran forward scored in their 2-0 FA Trophy first round victory at Maidstone.
"We beat a good side, although I'd have liked to have seen us take a greater percentage of the chances," Brown said.
"But I couldn't have written a better script, with Marcus scoring his first goal for the club."
Gayle played for the "old" Wimbledon FC before their move to Milton Keynes, and joined AFC during the summer.

Alfreton sign Cape Verde veteran Alfreton Town have signed experienced Cape Verde defender Georges Santos, after the much-travelled player found himself out of contract.
The 37-year-old signed for Chesterfield in August but his short-term contract was not renewed in November.
Since leaving the Spireites, Santos has had unsuccessful trials at Lincoln City and Rotherham United.
Born in Marseille, Santos has also played for Tranmere, West Brom, Grimsby, Ipswich, and Sheffield United.
Alfreton have also extended the loan of Josh Law from Chesterfield until the end of the season.

Brighton recall midfielder Fogden Brighton have recalled Wes Fogden from his loan spell at Blue Square South side Dorchester Town.
Injuries and two defeats over the festive period led manager Dean Wilkins to recall the central midfielder.
The 19-year-old is likely to be on the Seagulls' bench for the New Year's Day match against Bournemouth.
Dorchester assistant manager Paul Compton said: "He has earnt the right to impress in the Football League. I would like to wish him all the best."

Havant may face trip to Liverpool Non-league Havant & Waterlooville have been given the chance of a dream trip to Anfield in the FA Cup fourth round.
The Blue Square South side need to beat Swansea in their third-round replay, while Liverpool must defeat Luton.
Manchester United face either Tottenham or Reading, Arsenal will take on either Stoke or Newcastle, while holders Chelsea travel to Wigan.
Giant-killers Oldham and Huddersfield have drawn each other, while League Two's Mansfield host Middlesbrough.
Coventry's impressive 4-1 win over Blackburn in the third round is rewarded with a home tie against either Walsall or Millwall.
But with 12 third-round matches still to be decided, the draw for the fourth round will have to wait until the replays are out of the way to truly take shape.
Nevertheless, the possibility of Liverpool hosting a team five leagues below them has caught the imagination.
"It's a fantastic draw - it couldn't have gone much better," Havant player-manager Charlie Oatway told SSB.
"I think we'll have the old tin hats on if we get that far. But it's great to see that light at the end of the tunnel in the shape of a big club like Liverpool."
Mansfield manager Billy Dearden, whose side are second from bottom in League Two, admitted getting past Middlesbrough would be a tall order.
"They are a top-class team, we'll have to be at our best to get any kind of result," said the Stags boss, whose side beat Brighton on Saturday.
"But it's a tremendous draw. We've got a Premier League club at home and we're looking forward to it."
The draw - conducted by former FA Cup winners Alan Cork and John Aldridge - ensured that at least seven non-Premier League teams will make it through to the last 16.
The ties will all take place over the weekend of 26-27 January.

Boyd puts seal on Bluebirds deal Barrow AFC have secured the signing of experienced midfielder Mark Boyd from Eircom League side Sligo Rovers.
The 26-year-old has signed an 18-month-deal which sees Chris Butler move in the opposite direction.
Co-manager Dave Bayliss had been tracking the former Carlisle United and Port Vale midfielder for some time and Boyd was swayed by the interest.
He told the club website: "Bayliss basically just kept badgering me to come, so I knew I was really wanted."
