Calderwood given League One award
Nottingham Forest boss Colin Calderwood has been named as League One's manager of the month for August. Forest were unbeaten during their first five league games - beating Bradford, Blackpool, Northampton and Brighton, before drawing at Huddersfield. They have also only conceded two league goals - the only blemish being a defeat at Accrington in the Carling Cup. The other contenders for the award were Port Vale boss Martin Foyle and Brentford manager Leroy Rosenior.

Calderwood hails dedicated Harris
Nottingham Forest boss Colin Calderwood says Neil Harris' superb goal in the 4-0 win over Chesterfield is just reward for the hard work he has put in. He said: \"Neil spent last season on loan with Gillingham but told me in the summer that he wanted to give it a real go with Forest and he has done that. \"Even though he was disappointed not to be in the side at the start of the season he didn't let it bother him. \"He just got on with his job and is getting his rewards. I'm delighted.\"

Forest wait on Curtis injury news
Nottingham Forest are assessing the fitness of John Curtis after he had to come off during Saturday's win against Chesterfield with a hamstring injury. The 28-year-old defender played for 76 minutes in the 4-0 success. Forest manager Colin Calderwood told the club website: \"He just felt his hamstring slightly - we're hoping it won't be a big problem. \"It will probably be Tuesday before we know how serious it is. As soon as he felt it tighten up he came off.\"

Yeovil let James return to Forest
Yeovil have allowed on-loan striker Kevin James to return to Nottingham Forest before the end of his loan. Last week Marcus Stewart scored on his Yeovil debut after joining on loan from Bristol City, so boss Russell Slade decided James was no longer needed. \"I was delighted with his contribution during his month with us and I've been in contact with him to tell him that,\" Slade told the Western Daily Press. \"But I have signed Marcus and the shape of our team has changed recently.\"

Holt faces surgery on knee injury
Nottingham Forest midfielder Gary Holt will play on through the pain barrier, despite needing surgery to repair a tear in his knee cartilage. \"We're aware of it and have to just be a little bit careful,\" manager Colin Calderwood told the club's website. \"We have pencilled in dates for him to have surgery.\" He added: \"They could be brought forward or put back but at the moment he's prepared to play on through a little bit of discomfort.\"

Yeovil 0-1 Nottm Forest
Grant Holt scored his fifth goal of the season to give leaders Nottingham Forest a last-gasp victory at Yeovil. Holt volleyed home Nicky Southall's 88th-minute corner to keep Forest three points ahead of second-placed Tranmere. Yeovil keeper Steve Mildenhall earlier pulled off stunning saves to deny Jack Lester and Holt as Forest pressed. The hosts had chances of their own, the best one falling to Wayne Gray after Marcus Stewart put him through, but he could only fire straight at Paul Smith. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yeovil: Mildenhall, Lynch, Skiverton, Forbes, Jones, Gray (Webb 83), Terry, Cohen, Kalala, Morris (Welsh 74), Stewart, Webb (Davies 90). Forest concern over injured pair
Nottingham Forest boss Colin Calderwood was pleased with their narrow 1-0 win over Yeovil - but concerned after losing two defenders to injury. Danny Cullip and John Curtis were both forced off during the first half. Calderwood said: \"Cullip's looks like a muscle tear, so he may be out for a while. Curtis may also be out for some time, but we will wait and see. \"But I am delighted with how we performed, as we snatched a victory from what looked like being a draw.\"

Nottm Forest v Oldham
Nottingham Forest manager Colin Calderwood faces a defensive rearrangement with Danny Cullip and John Curtis injured. Cullip has a thigh injury and is set to be replaced by Wes Morgan while Curtis is out with hamstring problems. On-loan striker Lewis Grabban is pushing for a first-team start when Oldham travel to Forest. Will Haining (hamstring) and keeper Les Pogliacomi (knee) have both recovered fitness and should start.

Forest receive double injury lift
Nottingham Forest have been lifted by news that defenders John Curtis and Danny Cullip will not be ruled out for as long as originally expected. Both were injured in Saturday's 1-0 win at Yeovil, but Curtis may return from a hamstring problem in time for Saturday's match against Carlisle. Cullip has a thigh injury but is only likely to be sidelined for three weeks. Relieved boss Colin Calderwood told the club website: \"If it was a muscle tear it would have been four to six weeks.\"

Nottm Forest 0-2 Oldham
Oldham striker Chris Porter bagged a brace as League One leaders Nottingham Forest lost their 100% home record. Oldham dominated proceedings and opened the scoring just before the half-hour mark when Porter tapped in after Paul Smith parried a Gary McDonald effort. Porter went close again before he doubled the lead, nodding in after Smith misjudged Paul Edwards' cross. Forest were lacklustre and Grant Holt shot into the side-netting as they were soundly beaten at the City Ground. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nottm Forest: Smith, Gary Holt (Thompson 68), Morgan, Breckin, Bennett, Southall, Clingan, Harris (Dobie 75), Perch, Lester (Agogo 45), Grant Holt. Calderwood deflated after defeat
Nottingham Forest boss Colin Calderwood felt their first league defeat of the season was \"a humbling experience\" after they were beaten 2-0 by Oldham. \"Defeats have a way of bringing you back down to earth,\" he said. \"That's why you should enjoy any victory you get. It was important that we kept our good run going. \"It's a slap in the face - it's something we knew we would have to accept at some time in the season, but it doesn't make it any easier.\"

Back injury ends Johnson career
Nottingham Forest striker David Johnson has been forced to retire from football, reports Sir Stanley. Johnson has failed to recover from the back injury which has seen him sidelined since last December. After consultations with doctors, the 30-year-old has decided to call time on his playing career. Forest paid Ipswich Town £3.5m for Johnson in 2001, with the forward going on to score 50 goals in 167 appearances for the League One side. He began his career as a trainee at Manchester United before moving to Bury, Ipswich and then Forest. He also had loan spells at Sheffield Wednesday, Burnley and Sheffield United while on Forest's books.

Nottm Forest v Carlisle
Nottingham Forest hope defender John Curtis will recover from a hamstring problem, but centre-back Danny Cullip misses out due to his thigh injury. Kris Commons could be handed a place on the bench and Junior Agogo may get his first start for the League One leaders. Fit-again Carlisle midfielder Chris Billy is pushing for a return after five games out with a groin problem. On-loan Derby midfielder Paul Thirlwell could be replaced as the Cumbrians go to Forest with a fully-fit squad.

Warnock to look at keeper Gerrard
Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock has invited former Everton goalkeeper Paul Gerrard to train with the club and may hand the 33-year-old a deal. Gerrard, who was released by Nottingham Forest in May, played 16 times for the Blades during the 2003-04 season. Warnock said: \"I know Paul, he's been with us before and it seemed silly that he is not training with anyone. \"I have not seen him yet. So if anything is to happen then it will depend on his condition.\" Warnock added: \"It's a case of nothing ventured, nothing gained. \"We've not been able to find a third goalkeeper. \"So I felt it would help both him and us if he came up for a couple of days and had a chat with us.\" Meanwhile, Warnock has revealed midfielder Michael Tonge may be out for up to six weeks with an ankle injury he suffered last week. \"We're hoping that's not the case once the surgeon has seen him after the scan,\" said Warnock. \"The problem is he's taken a whack on the joint, it's produced a little flaky piece of bone, and occasionally one jams in the joint. \"If that happens and you can't free it then it has to be flushed out, so we will have to wait and see what the surgeon says.\"

Commons out to prove full fitness
Nottingham Forest midfielder Kris Commons says he is ready to win his place back in the starting line-up. The 23-year-old came on as substitute and played 30 minutes of Forest's 0-0 draw against Tranmere at the weekend. Commons told Sir Stanley: \"I haven't played a full 90 minutes all season so I'd go for it. \"But the consequences are I might pull a muscle if I played the whole game. I want to play but I think the boss is waiting for another week.\" Commons added: \"So I think I might have another reserve game and then look to play 90 minutes.\"
