Norwich 0 v QPR 1
The Canaries faced an uphill battle at Carrow Road after trailing at half-time to a Queens Park Rangers side reduced to 10 men. Central defender Matt Connolly was dismissed on 25 minutes for collecting two yellows - and eight minutes later Martin Rowlands put the visitors ahead when he blasted home a free-kick from just outside the penalty area. The Canaries showed little up front, with Antoine Sibierski having a quiet game, although he did see one stinging shot inadvertently deflected for a corner off a defender. Mark Fotheringham shot straight at Radek Cerny in the closing stages of the half, but it was comfortable for the keeper, who had been largely unemployed. City boss Glenn Roeder named an unchanged side, with Darel Russell having recovered from his weekend exertions, despite them coming just 10 days after a double hernia operation. It was the second game in a row that City had been up against 10 men after Plymouth lost central defender Krisztian Timar after 34 minutes on Saturday. The Canaries went on to win that game 2-1 - but half-way through tonight's encounter it was clear that a vast improvement was necessary if they were to repeat that scoreline.
