Newcastle Reportedly After Three QPR Players
The Ealing Gazette is today reporting that Newcastle United are preparing a £6M swoop for three QPR players. The three players they identify are defenders Fitz Hall and Damien Delaney, and also Dexter Blackstock, who is supposed to be moving to Nottingham Forest. Not surprisingly the Newcastle club is said to have been told it would take a ‘mega-bucks’ deal before the two clubs even get around a table. That’s going to be happening with Newcastle during the summer, because even through we have less money than we had (we were the 13th richest club in the world last season), we are still well off for Championship sides, and who knows if the Sultan of Oman buys us – we could be very well off. A source talked to the Ealing Gazette: “You can imagine selling players to our rivals,” “That’s not the way to get promotion.” “But money always speaks in football – and it depends on how much Newcastle really want them.” Code breaker for the above statement – QPR want as much as they can squeeze out of Newcastle for the players, but that’s hardly surprising. Blackstock was apparently on his way to Nottingham Forest, but as yet there has been on official bid made for the player. The 22 year-old 6′2″ Blackstock has played 109 times for QPR with 30 goals, and was recently on loan at Nottingham Forest, where he scored 2 goals in 6 games. He has played once for the England U20 side and twice for the England U21 side. Blackstock started his career at Southampton in 2003 ( 28 appearances – 4 goals), before moving to QPR in 2006. Fitz Hall is a 6′4″ defender and signed a four-and-a-half year deal with Rangers at the start of the 2008 January transfer window. He has been at Oldham, Southampton, Crystal Palace and Wigan Athletic before joining QPR. He made 15 appearances in all competitions for QPR last season whereas Ashington-born Peter Ramage made 34 appearances, so we cannot think that Fritz is even as good as Ramage, who left Newcastle last summer for QPR. Damien Delaney is a defender who signed a three-and-a-half year deal with Queens Park Rangers in January 2008 and the left back has been a good and popular player for QPR. Delaney’s form impressed new Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni, and Damien made his full international debut in the summer international against Serbia last May, and Damien Diff will be able to tell Alan Shearer all he wants to know about the left back. So it looks like Blackstock and Delaney would be useful buys, but we’re not sure about Hall. If these three are Shearer targets, which we have to believe, we hope Alan is appointed soon, so he can do some deals in the market, rather quickly. We have to believe Alan is moving right now with some deals, on the information he will be appointed permanent manager very soon. We hope so anyway. Delaney is apparently also wanted by Roy Keane at Ipswich Town as well, so we suppose the transfer market will now go into full swing, and we have to hope Newcastle will be in there bidding for their targets.
