New Pitch
Work began today (Monday) on the resurfacing of the Loftus Road pitch ahead of the 2007/08 Championship campaign.
The lush green grass of the R's pristine playing surface has gone under the knife as a team of professionals get to work on providing the best possible playing surface for the new season.
Head Groundsman Steve Moore explained: "We'll be using a Koro Top Field Maker machine which carefully removes the top level of the pitch, at about three-quarters of an inch, but leaves the fibre in tact.
"That enables us to remove the build up of organic matter that developed throughout last season, as well as allowing us to eradicate the increased poa annua (which is a meadow grass), in an attempt to bring back the rye grass for the new campaign.
"That will remove 125 tons of organic matter, before the pitch is agitated and then sewn with 14x25kg of Dutch / American rye grass.''
The work is expected to take up to three days to complete, with the grass up within three weeks.
