Murphy may net recall for England
Charlton midfielder Danny Murphy may win an international recall for next month's World Cup qualifiers, according to England assistant boss Tord Grip. England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson will watch the 28-year-old during Charlton's game against Tottenham on Saturday. And Grip told the Football Association website: "In midfield we have some good players but if Murphy plays like he has done so far we will watch him." He won nine England caps between 2001 and 2003 but has since been overlooked. Murphy has played a major part in Charlton's high-flying campaign, which has led them to second place in the Premiership. England's next World Cup qualifier is against Austria at Old Trafford on 8 October and Murphy will find out on Sunday if he has made the squad. Grip, who saw Murphy play in Saturday's 2-1 win at West Brom, added: "He is doing so well for Charlton and, of course, if you pick a player from a team doing well then you know that you will have a confident player, that's for sure. "Danny has been terrific. He did well last season but this season Charlton are playing him alongside Alexei Smertin and one holding midfield player so he can go forward a little bit more. "Murphy is very good. He has some sort of free role and is good on the ball."
