Murphy lands Ulster player award
Linfield defender William Murphy has pipped team-mate Paul McAreavey to be named Ulster Footballer of the Year. The Irish League's top scorer Gary Hamilton, who has netted 35 goals for Glentoran this term, came third. The award is run by the Castlereagh Glentoran Supporters' Club and decided by an independent judging panel. "Linfield's success is down to everyone at the club but I am thrilled to have been selected. Some famous names have won it in the past," said Murphy. "We are sitting pretty at the top of the league and are in two cup semi-finals so it is looking like a good end to the season for us. "I cannot say enough about our manager David Jeffrey. He has instilled a desire and winning mentality."
