Middlesbrough v FC Basle
Middlesbrough are expected to bring back keeper Mark Schwarzer for Thursday's Uefa Cup quarter-final second-leg clash with FC Basle. Schwarzer missed Boro's Premiership win over Manchester City with swollen glands, but should be fit to return. Captain Gareth Southgate is back in training following an ankle injury. But Boro, who have to overturn a 2-0 deficit from the first leg, will be without midfielder Gaizka Mendieta after he fractured a bone in his foot.

McClaren backs Boro to progress
Middlesbrough boss Steve McClaren knows his side go into the second leg of their Uefa Cup quarter-final against Swiss side FC Basle as underdogs. Boro need to overturn a 2-0 first-leg deficit, but McClaren still expects his side to produce the goods. "We are rank outsiders, but what gives me belief is that we have got players who can score goals," said McClaren. "We have scored against the teams in Europe this season and we can do it again against Basle." McClaren said his players had looked focused on the job in hand during training for Thursday's game. "I look at the squad and I look at the atmosphere this week, and there is a real determination," he said. "They know what they have to do, that is the key. "It's not like Roma and Stuttgart, where we were defending leads. This time we know we have to score, we know we have to attack, we know we have to go for goals. "The pressure is all on Basle because I don't think anybody really outside of Middlesbrough expects us to go through."
