McCarthy ruled out of Uefa match
Blackburn striker Benni McCarthy has been ruled out of Thursday's Uefa Cup tie against Finnish side MyPa. The South African suffered concussion in the win at Middlesbrough, where he collapsed on the pitch. McCarthy, 29, will stay behind when the team travel to Finland and manager Mark Hughes said: "Benni has been checked over again and is okay. "But he got a bang on the temple, which shook him up, and the MyPa game has come too soon for him." McCarthy collapsed after clashing heads with two Boro defenders and was taken to hospital before being released to travel with the team. Rovers doctor Phil Batty carried out a routine examination of McCarthy on Monday. McCarthy was Blackburn's leading scorer in his debut season in the Premier League, finding the net 24 times last term.
