Max Ehmer signs Pro
Max Ehmer was this week celebrating signing his first professional football contract, with Queens Park Rangers. Max Ehmer, 17, has worked his way through the age groups at the Championship side and last year was a star of their U18s. And the German-born midfielder is already predicting that he might not be the only Ehmer sibling to make an impact in the world of sport. He said: "My whole family are keen footballers. My younger brother, Moritz, plays for the U13s at Reading, and my sister, Franziska, plays on the girls' varsity team at ACS Egham International School. "I have played football my whole life, but the first football team I joined was Ascot United when I was around eight. "While at ACS Egham I played on the varsity team, which I really enjoyed. But it was when I was playing for Warfield Predators at the age of 11 that I got scouted to play for QPR, and it has been upwards from there really." Ehmer was a pupil at ACS Egham, in London Road, near Englefield Green, until last summer. And his contract with QPR is not the only sporting success being celebrated by the school this month. The girls' varsity football team won the International School Sports Association's (ISSA) annual tournament, hosted at the school recently. They competed against seven other ISSA schools in two days of matches, defeating the International School of London in the semi-final, with a golden goal in extra-time, and then faced Southbank International School in the final. There, captain Ana Gomez shot to give ACS Egham a 1-0 win. Bob Bulloch, the school's athletic director, said: "The whole school is very proud of the team's determination, sportsmanship and skill which led to this championship success. "This is the first time the school has won the tournament, so we are particularly proud of the girls' achievement."
