Mansfield Town
Mansfield boss Carlton Palmer has explained his reasons for naming Peter Shirtliff as his new number two. "He's an organised, disciplined person who believes in structure and in doing things properly. He's a very good coach," he told BBC Radio Nottingham. Shirtliff replaces Paul Holland who returns to his youth team duties. Palmer played alongside Shirtliff when the pair were at Sheffield Wednesday.

Bacon backs out of Stags switch
Hucknall Town striker Danny Bacon has changed his mind about his proposed move back to Mansfield Town. The 24-year-old frontman, who began his career at Field Mill, said: "I am on more money at Hucknall and I have had other offers from elsewhere for more. Bacon added: "I was all ready to accept what was on offer but I had a chat with my Mum and Dad and they were right - it's not enough money. "I know it's not (manager) Carlton Palmer's fault - he has a budget to work with. But we'll just have to see what happens. "If he really wants me, I hope we can speak again and negotiate - we are not that far away. "I would love to come back, I am a Mansfield lad. But it's a short career and I have to think of myself and my family." Palmer had swooped for Bacon after watching him play for Hucknall in Sunday's FA Trophy final, which the Conference South side lost on penalties.
