Lyon pick up record sixth title
Lyon were crowned French champions for a record sixth successive season after nearest rivals Toulouse lost at Rennes.
Gerard Houllier's team are now 17 points clear of second-placed Lens, who took second spot in the table following their 2-0 victory over Le Mans.
It is the first time a club has achieved this feat in the league since the competition started back in 1932.
Jacques Santini won the first before Paul Le Guen led Lyon to the next three, and Houllier for five and six.
St Etienne and Marseille held the previous record of four consecutive league titles.
St Etienne were crowned from 1967 to 1970 while Marseille were champions from 1989 to 1992.
In 1993, Marseille ended the season top of Ligue 1 for the fifth consecutive year but were stripped of that title for match-fixing.
