Luton 1-1 Colchester Sam Parkin grabbed his first goal for Luton, but Jamie Cureton rescued a draw for Colchester at Kenilworth Road.
Rowan Vine fired just wide before Parkin opened the scoring after the half-hour mark, heading home six yards out from Carlos Edwards' fine cross.
But their joy was short-lived, as Chris Iwelumo teed up Cureton and he slammed in a thunderous shot from 25 yards.
Richard Langley hit a penalty against the bar after he was fouled and Edwards struck the bar, but Colchester held on.

Luton Town manager Mike Newell:
\"In the second half we created a number of chances and that is something of an understatement.
\"We should have won the game there is no doubt about that.
\"It was one of those games and I was just glad we didn't throw it all away when they got a corner at the end.\"
Colchester goalkeeper Aidan Davison (after pulling off a string of saves):
\"I've had a lot better nights than that.
\"I like to be organised correctly and help my defenders deal with crosses but I was overworked. When you have that much to do it isn't a good performance.
\"We're just pleased to come away with a point, but there's a lot more that the team can tidy up on.\"

Cardiff v Luton Cardiff have central defender Glenn Loovens available again after he missed the 3-3 draw at Plymouth because of a one-match suspension.
Skipper Darren Purse or Roger Johnson will make way should Loovens earn a swift recall.
Luton could have Chris Coyne back with the defender close to fitness after struggling with a knee injury.
Defender Russell Perrett, forward Calvin Andrew and utility man Paul Underwood miss the trip through injury.
SirStanleyBowles- 09-18-2006
Newell reveals Underwood despair Luton manager Mike Newell has expressed his frustration at not being able to call upon utility man Paul Underwood.
The 33-year-old has not featured this term after being laid low by a post-op infection and his recovery is taking longer than the Hatters expected.
\"Underwood is nowhere near, he is where he was three weeks ago,\" said Newell.
\"Sometimes people don't realise how valuable they are until they're out. We know his value and it'll be like getting a new player when he's fit.\"
SirStanleyBowles- 09-26-2006
Luton 2-2 West Brom Zoltan Gera's second-half strike ensured caretaker boss Nigel Pearson took something from his first league match in charge of West Brom.
Rowan Vine gave Luton a deserved lead when he ran on to Richard Langley's defence-splitting pass on 27 minutes.
Darren Carter pulled the Baggies level with a stunning 20-yard shot before Vine turned in Dean Morgan's free-kick.
Gera met Paul Robinson's cross at an acute angle to level and Paul McShane had a late effort ruled out for a foul.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Luton manager Mike Newell:
\"We started really really well and I thought it should have been all over after half an hour.
\"It's really frustrating because in the last two home games we've only ended up with two points and it really should have been six.\"
West Brom caretaker manager Nigel Pearson:
\"I'm very disappointed that the late goal did not stand from Ronnie Wallwork.
\"I've had a look at it and I've got to say I did not see a great deal wrong with it.
\"Our players are very disappointed with it and you can tell by the reaction of the Luton players because none of them seemed to be looking for a free kick.
\"It seems a bit of a mystery and it means the run goes on in terms of trying to get three points away from home - but that will change.\"

The Tykes will be without suspended keeper Nick Colgan while striker Daniel Nardiello is pushing for a place after recovering from a dislocated shoulder.
Full-back Sol Davis has overcome a groin injury and may return for Luton.
His return is a relief to the Hatters who have centre-backs Chris Coyne and Russell Perrett (both knee) struggling.

Luton 3-2 Birmingham Luton substitute David Bell scored a late goal to earn his side victory over high-flying Birmingham City.
DJ Campbell put Blues ahead, racing on to Gary McSheffrey's chip and rifling in, before Rowan Vine scored from the spot after Lewis Emanuel was fouled.
Vine put Luton in front a minute later by prodding home in the middle of a crowded box after an Emanuel corner.
Birmingham equalised with a stunning 12-yard Neil Danns volley, before Bell won it with his cool right-foot finish.
# Luton manager Mike Newell:
\"I thought it was a little bit harsh and if ours was a penalty then their one earlier on probably was as well.
\"With the way they had started and with them being 1-0 up I have to say I wasn't feeling too confident.
\"But we have got goals in us and we fancy our chances against at home.\"
# Birmingham manager Steve Bruce:
\"When you see the one the refreee turned down at the other end you have to say the penalty was harsh.
\"The referee got it totally wrong and it was a blatant mistake.
\"We had two that were very similar which weren't given and Cameron's particularly was a stonewall penalty.\"

Luton 5-1 Leeds Luton thrashed Leeds to condemn the troubled Yorkshire club to their fourth straight defeat.
Carlos Edwards finished from a tight angle to put Luton ahead in the 12th minute but Hayden Foxe's header ensured honours were even at half-time.
Two goals in three minutes - a chested effort from Rowan Vine and a David Bell strike - put the home side in control.
A Markus Heikkinen header made it 4-1 and Edwards turned in Vine's deflected cross to complete Leeds' misery.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Luton boss Mike Newell:
\"I imagine it will have been a long time since Luton beat a club like Leeds 5-1.
\"We started quite well and, although they came back into the match towards the end of the first half, we felt that if we could score the second goal, more would follow.
\"But we did not expect to get five. Given the way we have been playing at home, and the results Leeds have had, we felt we could beat them.\"

Burnley's Wayne Thomas (knee) is a doubt after his injury against Preston.

SirStanleyBowles- 11-01-2006
Luton 0-2 Burnley Andy Gray struck a first-half double at Kenilworth Road to give 10-man Burnley their second win in five days.
Gray was set up on 30 minutes by Frank Sinclair for his first, and headed home a Wade Elliot cross five minutes later.
The Hatters had plenty of possession and saw Burnley's Stephen Foster sent off in the second half, but could not breach a well-drilled Clarets defence.
Burnley extended their unbeaten run to six games as Luton failed to bounce back after losing 5-0 at Ipswich.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Luton manager Mike Newell
\"I don't think we played that badly.
\"Our main problem is we are missing five or six people who would normally be first choice and that affects you.
\"Burnley came out with no intention of scoring anymore in the second half. We had chances and, on another night, we might have come back into it.\"
Burnley boss Steve Cotterill on Andy Gray's goals
\"The first was an excellent finish and, by keeping on running, it just goes to show what can open up for you.
\"We were wondering whether he would be able to get his leg high enough up to finish it and he managed to do that.
\"The second was a proper poachers goal. He peeled away at the far post - it was a great cross and a great finish.\"

Preston 3-0 Luton Graham Alexander scored a second-half penalty to set Preston on their way to victory over 10-man Luton.
Adam Boyd missed early on for Luton with only Carlo Nash to beat and Preston's David Nugent hit the post.
After the break Hatters keeper Marlon Bersford was sent-off for tripping Nugent and Alexander converted.
Substitute keeper Dean Brill saved from Simon Whaley but could not stop close-range efforts from Patrick Agyemang and Brett Ormeord.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Preston manager Paul Simpson:
\"We've shown we can play flowing football but it's not always going to be like that and against Luton we had to roll our sleeves up.
\"Perhaps the fans thought it was a case of us just turning up and putting the shirts on today.
\"But we had to battle and we have shown we can do that.\"
Luton manager Mike Newell (on Marlon Beresford's red card):
\"It's a stupid rule made by stupid people. Of course the keeper's the last man.
\"If a keeper cannot be allowed to go down at the striker's feet and make an honest challenge something is wrong.
\"There's people pontificating on a Sunday morning and scrutinising every decision and it's not right.\"
