Kiyan murder jury is discharged
A jury has failed to reach a verdict in the trial of a youth accused of murdering teenage footballer Kiyan Prince who was stabbed to death in May. The judge discharged the jury after four days of deliberations, deciding it was unlikely to reach a verdict. The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at the Old Bailey accused of stabbing Kiyan, 15, outside his school in Edgware, north London. The 16-year-old from north London, will now face a retrial. He admitted manslaughter, but denied murdering Kiyan on 18 May outside the gates of the London Academy. He said the death was an accident and that he intended to scratch Kiyan with a knife he considered a toy. Kiyan, who played for Queens Park Rangers' youth team, was stabbed through the heart. The date for the retrial will be set on Friday, 3 November.
