Ipswich 2-1 Coventry
Billy Clarke's 85th-minute goal gave Ipswich a dramatic late victory over Coventry in an entertaining encounter. On-loan Mark Noble scored his first Town goal in the 52nd minute when he unleashed a right-footed strike from just inside the six-yard box. Elliott Ward levelled for Coventry when he crashed home substitute Leon McKenzie's 72nd minute cross. But substitute Clarke had the final say, cutting in from the left and smashing in an 18-yard drive. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ipswich manager Jim Magilton on Billy Clarke: \"He is a revelation but I must try to keep his feet on the ground. He was a sub so he will be reporting for training in the morning. \"He has always had something about him. He was injured last term but took it well and is firing on all cylinders.\" On on-loan Mark Noble, Jon Macken and Simon Walton, he said: \"They are good lads and ambitious young men.\" Coventry boss Micky Adams: \"Ipswich took their chances, we didn't. We failed to live up to the standard we showed against Norwich on Saturday. \"To do well in this league you must be very consistent. We have new faces and must find out about each other quickly. \"We knew it would be difficult but I was disappointed with how we conceded.\" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ipswich: Price, Wilnis (Naylor 66), De Vos, Bruce, Harding, Williams, Legwinski, Walton, Noble (Currie 84), Lee, Macken (Clarke 80). Robson upbeat after brain surgery
Former England boss Sir Bobby Robson says he is getting \"better every day\" - almost three weeks after undergoing an operation to remove a brain tumour. \"I'm making progress and recuperating well,\" the 73-year-old told www.nobok.co.uk. \"The chances are I will need to be in hospital for another two to three weeks but that is up to the specialist looking after me to decide. \"I'm on the mend. Every day is a better day and I'm getting more movement.\" The tumour was found when he was taken to hospital after falling ill during a match at Ipswich in August. He is honorary president of the Suffolk side. After the operation, a slight swelling on his brain led to the temporary loss of movement on his left side. Robson, currently a consultant for the Republic of Ireland side, had a lung tumour removed earlier this year and has had other cancer surgery on a previous two occasions. He led England as coach to the 1990 World Cup semi-finals and had a successful managerial career at Ipswich Town. He also managed Barcelona, PSV Eindhoven, Sporting Lisbon, FC Porto and Newcastle United.

Birmingham v Ipswich
Birmingham striker Nicklas Bendtner will be missing after picking up a one-game suspension imposed following his red card at QPR. Stephen Kelly (calf) and Mat Saddler (groin) are not expected to feature. Ipswich will be without defender Alex Bruce for the game against his former club as a result of an agreement between the sides when he moved. Ipswich close in on Miller swoop
Ipswich Town are hoping to tie up a deal for Bury Town defender Ian Miller over the next couple of days. The 21-year-old has trained with the club for the past few weeks and is set to join until the end of the season. Magilton told Sir stanley: \"He's played a couple of reserve games and been very good and he's worth a chance. \"It is a big step as he's coming from the Ryman League, but we feel he has the attributes to be a very good player - we think we might have a little gem.\"

Ipswich 3-1 Sunderland
Two second-half goals in three minutes from Alan Lee condemned Roy Keane to his first defeat as Sunderland manager. The visitors took the lead through an own goal from Jason De Vos on 28 minutes, but a Darren Currie free-kick levelled the scores four minutes later. Lee grabbed his first with a header on 62 minutes before a right-footed finish three minutes later. Sunderland ended the game with 10 men after Ross Wallace was sent off for a second bookable offence. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ipswich manager Jim Magilton: \"Once again I am very proud of my players. They showed great character and tremendous team spirit and overall I think we deserved to win. \"Alan Lee's first goal was a fantastic header and I was delighted for him. He has played catch-up since pre-season after returning from an operation. \"He's worked very hard and now he is in tip-top shape he's getting his reward.\" Sunderland boss Roy Keane: \"There's very little between teams in this league and if you make mistakes you expect to be punished. \"We didn't play particularly well and gave three silly goals away. It hurts a lot to lose but now it depends on how we react. \"What is most disappointing is that the game was there to be taken.\" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ipswich: Price, Richards (Moore 90), De Vos, Naylor, Harding, Noble, Williams (Bowditch 87), Sito, Currie, Macken (Clarke 73), Lee. Williams to have groin operation
Ipswich midfielder Gavin Williams will have surgery next week after being hampered with a groin problem. He is likely to be sidelined for a month, but boss Jim Magilton hopes to limit the number of games which the Wales international will miss. \"We have a two-week international break after Friday's game, so we can take advantage,\" he told the club website. \"He is suspended for the West Brom game (on 14 October) anyway, so he will miss fewer games than he normally would.\"

Colchester 1-0 Ipswich
Karl Duguid's first league goal in over three years gave Colchester victory over local rivals Ipswich Town. Duguid prodded the ball home on nine minutes after Lewis Price spilled Jamie Cureton's shot. Early in the second half Ipswich looked to have equalised, but Jon Macken's goal was controversially disallowed for a foul on goalkeeper Aidan Davison. The Colchester stopper had a good game and made some key saves, notably to block Billy Clarke's close-range shot. # Colchester manager Geraint Williams: \"I couldn't see why the goal was ruled out. \"Of course I'm glad it wasn't given, but if I had been Jim Magilton I would have been disappointed.\" \"You saw the crowd's reaction. The win means everything to them and we were very aware of that.\" # Ipswich manager Jim Magilton: \"We lost the game in the first 45 minutes. Colchester started very and our lads weren't at it. \"This was a local derby and we had talked before about how good a side Colchester are and how they would start the game at a brisk pace. \"If you're not competitive and don't win second-phase balls then you're going to lose.\" Colchester: Davison, Halford, Baldwin, Brown, Barker, Garcia, Watson, Izzet, Duguid, Iwelumo, Cureton. Subs Not Used: White, Jackson, Guy, Gerken, McLeod. Booked: Cureton, Brown. Goals: Duguid 9. Ipswich man is not rushing back
Ipswich insist they will not rush teenager Owen Garvan back to action. The 18-year-old midfielder suffered a bout of shingles during the summer, and since then has been sidelined with post-viral syndrome. \"I've not been given any targets - it's just a case of one step at a time,\" Garvan told the club website. Town boss Jim Magilton added: \"As far as we are concerned, Owen will be back playing football again when he is 100% ready - and not before.\"

Ipswich v West Brom
Ipswich midfielder Gavin Williams misses the game as he serves a one-match suspension. Defender Alex Bruce is available after ban, while full-back Fabian Wilnis is fit following a thigh injury. West Brom skipper Curtis Davies has recovered from a broken metatarsal and could come in for fellow defender Paul McShane, who is suspended. Ipswich 1-5 West Brom
Striker Kevin Phillips fired a hat-trick as West Brom, watched by new manager Tony Mowbray who will take over on Wednesday, swept past Ipswich. Diomansy Kamara slid in the opener for the Baggies, before Chris Perry put through his own net to make it 1-1. But Jason Koumas soon fed Phillips, who headed in to restore Albion's lead. Phillips grabbed his second from Zoltan Gera's cross before he set up Kamara to make it 4-1, and curled in a 20-yard shot with seconds left for his third. # West Brom caretaker manager Nigel Pearson: \"It's an irony of football. This has been coming because we know we have good players. Although I am delighted with the result, in a way it's a shame it came now. \"Once you get a label for being unable to win away it can cause a barrier. Ultimately it was probably the reason for the change of leadership, but that's football. \"This was undoubtedly the most clinical performance we have given all season.\" Ipswich boss Jim Magilton: \"When we fell behind we did not seem to have the spirit to come back. \"West Brom had more desire than us They were a level above us and it was an eye-opener. \"We just didn't sense danger at all and we defended too deep. We must now lick our wounds and put it behind us.\" Ipswich: Price, Bruce, De Vos, Naylor, Harding, Currie (Bowditch 54), Legwinski, Walton (Richards 79), Noble, Lee, Clarke. Subs Not Used: Supple, Sito, Macken. Booked: Walton, Naylor, Bruce, Noble. Goals: Perry 36 og. Ipswich v Preston
Ipswich boss Jim Magilton has no new injury worries but is planning to ring the changes after Saturday's 5-1 home thrashing by West Bromwich Albion. Dutch full-back Fabian Wilnis could be recalled while winger Martin Brittain is also pushing for a starting place. Preston will again be without striker Patrick Agyemang as he continues to struggle with a hip problem. Midfielder Alan McCormack has recovered from a hamstring injury but is not in the squad that travels to Ipswich.

Ipswich target Roberts loan move
Ipswich are closing in on the emergency loan signing of left winger Gary Roberts from Accrington Stanley. The 22-year-old could join the Championship side until January. Town boss Jim Magilton hopes to bolster his squad with Mark Noble expected to return to West Ham next month when his three-month loan expires. And with Gavin Williams and Owen Garvan both sidelined through injury and illness respectively, Ipswich are lacking options in midfield. Roberts, who has also operated as a central striker, has scored eight goals in League Two this season following Stanley?s promotion from the Conference. Roberts, who joined Accrington from Welshpool in March, 2005 after starting out at Crewe and Liverpool, was wanted by Yeovil Town in the summer.

Southend v Ipswich
Southend's Spencer Prior is doubtful with a shin injury, with Peter Clarke on standby to deputise again. Jamal Campbell-Ryce hopes to be fit again, while Efe Sodje (Achilles) and Che Wilson (calf) should be OK but Lee Bradbury (hip and thigh) is still out. Ipswich's Lewis Price could lose his place to Shane Suple after conceding eight goals in the last two home games. Gary Roberts could make his debut while Richard Naylor and Sito Castro come into contention.

Southend 1-3 Ipswich
Billy Clarke, Sylvain Legwinski and Alan Lee were on target as Ipswich eased to victory, despite losing keeper Lewis Price to an early injury. Clarke came off the bench to nod Town ahead on the half-hour mark, seven minutes after replacing Jon Macken. Freddy Eastwood missed a chance to level and was punished after break as Legwinski volleyed in and Lee poked home two minutes apart. Simon Francis got a goal back for Southend but Ipswich had done enough. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Southend manager Steve Tilson: \"We didn't play well enough and we didn't pass the ball well enough. \"We gave the ball away too often and in this league you don't get it back. \"In the last 35 minutes we gave it a right go but by then it was too late. The players believe in themselves and their ability but we have only got a small squad. \"The front two had to come off with a virus and we're short of bodies as it is, so I might have to look at getting somebody in on loan.\" Ipswich boss Jim Magilton on striker Billy Clarke: \"He is going to be a special player. He has got all the attributes and we're delighted to have him at this club. \"He has proved he can do it at this level. We normally like to put him on after an hour but he is desperate to play and desperate to score goals. \"We showed a lot of character and we deserved to win the game.\" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Southend: Flahavan, Hunt, Clarke, Barrett, Hammell, Francis, Maher, Guttridge, Gower, Eastwood (Paynter 60), Harrold (Sodje 60). Ipswich confirm Bramble interest
Ipswich boss Jim Magilton wants to sign former Town defender Titus Bramble and Crewe midfielder David Vaughan. Bramble, 25, who joined Newcastle from the Suffolk club in 2002, will not be given a new Magpies contract when his deal expires at the end of the season. Magilton told the East Anglian Daily Times: \"If there was a possibility of signing Titus I would do it right now.\" Meanwhile, Magilton has confirmed he is interested in Crewe's left-sided player Vaughan, 23, and has had him watched. Magilton added: \"We've not asked about Titus yet but if he is available and would like to come, then we will be in there finding out.\" \"David is someone I like and we have watched but Crewe are not interested in doing a deal just yet. \"That may change but we now have Gary Roberts and he can do a similar job.\"
