Hunt charged after U21 race claim
Germany Under-21 striker Aaron Hunt has been charged with gross unsporting conduct by Uefa's disciplinary body after last month's match with England. Hunt, who denies the claim, is alleged to have made racist comments against Micah Richards and Anton Ferdinand in their European Championships play-off. The case will be dealt with by Uefa's disciplinary board on Thursday and Hunt faces a suspension if found guilty. The charge follows a complaint by the English Football Association. The unsporting conduct charge means Uefa can take disciplinary action even if they cannot prove racist abuse. Uefa recently gave Wisla Krakow defender Nikola Mijailovic a five-match ban after he was found guilty of making racist remarks to Blackburn striker Benni McCarthy. In Mijailovic's case the claims of racist abuse were corroborated by the referee whereas in Hunt's case no match official has reported hearing any racist abuse. Ferdinand has claimed the word \"monkey\" was used as an insult during the crucial Under-21 play-off. But in a German football federation (DFB) statement issued after the match in Leverkusen, Hunt said: \"I did not use any racist terms whatsoever. \"There were fierce verbal exchanges but that happens in every match.\" Hunt added that he had spent the last week sharing a room with Hertha Berlin midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng. \"He is a black player and that should say enough,\" added Hunt. The row threatened to overshadow England's 2-0 win over Germany in October which saw them qualify for the European Championships.
