Hull name Brown as caretaker boss Hull have confirmed Phil Brown as their caretaker manager following Phil Parkinson's departure from the club.
Parkinson was sacked as boss on Monday after five months in charge, prompting 47-year-old Brown's promotion.
And even though he was sacked at Derby after seven months, City say he will be considered for the permanent job.
Colin Murphy, who was Parkinson's assistant, has now reverted to his previous role with the club's centre of excellence and will also assist Brown.
\"Phil will be part of the recruitment and assessment process in finding a new manager,\" read a club statement.
\"Phil will be in charge for our visit to Plymouth Argyle on Saturday, and for the length of time required to undergo the full recruitment process.
\"That procedure is now under way.\"
With Hull currently five points adrift of safety in the Championship, Brown is aware that he is in the perfect position to underline his credentials as Parkinson's permanent successor.
Earlier in the week, Brown, who joined the club as first-team coach in October, said: \"I do want to return to management but unfortunately not in these circumstances.\"
However, he added: \"The objective is to stay in the Championship and we've got a 20-game mini-series now to get points on the board. Hopefully the club will stay in this division.
\"Of course I remain open-minded (about taking the role on permanently). It would be an opportunity for any man in or out of football to be able to come to a great football club.
\"There's no doubt about it, from what I've seen of this football club so far, the set-up is fantastic and geared towards certainly Championship football, if not higher.\"

Dowie holds talks over Hull job Iain Dowie has emerged as one of the front-runners to succeed Phil Parkinson as Hull City manager after holding talks with the Tigers.
Dowie, 41, has been out of work since being sacked by Charlton last month.
Hull chairman Adam Pearson said: \"Iain is a strong candidate and definitely one we are looking at very seriously.
\"We've had an awful lot of applications for the job. There are perhaps half-a-dozen people you want to arrange things with and Iain is one of those.\"
But Pearson is adamant he will not rush into any decision following Parkinson's departure on 4 December.
He explained: \"We are talking to Iain as part of the process but there is a lot of people to get through.
\"We are looking at quite a few other people and trying to make sure we get the right one.\"
Dowie was in charge at The Valley for only 12 Premiership games and he left Charlton on 13 November, with the club bottom of the Premiership table.
Hull are in similar trouble in the Championship, lying in 23rd place after Saturday's defeat by Plymouth.
Dowie's biggest achievement in management so far is winning promotion to the top flight in 2004 with Crystal Palace after taking charge at Selhurst Park in December 2003 when the Eagles were fighting relegation.
Pearson added: \"That was unbelievable and I think people look at that and realise that it was quite a staggering achievement.
\"He has had three good years in management and maybe didn't quite have the luck he needed at Charlton.
\"But he is an intelligent man, he is a good motivator, he has got good presence and he knows the division.\"

Leeds 0-0 Hull Leeds remain second from bottom after drawing with relegation rivals Hull.
The home side came close to breaking the deadlock in the 40th minute when Tresor Kandol's header was tipped over the bar by Hull goalkeeper Boaz Myhill.
Early in the second half Ryan France headed straight at Leeds keeper Tony Warner following a Sam Ricketts cross.
Leeds debutant Jonny Howson had a gilt-edged chance to score in the 75th minute but he scuffed his shot to leave Dennis Wise's team deep in trouble.
Leeds manager Dennis Wise:
\"Jonny Howson's only a baby, and it was a gamble, but he nearly got me the winner. He is a young lad with a lot of talent.
\"He knows the game at an early age and in practice the other day he was the one who stuck out like a sore thumb.
\"He's got good knowledge of the game and that's something that doesn't come too often.\"
Hull caretaker manager Phil Brown:
\"It was a superb point.
\"The players dug in for me and showed exactly the type of character and commitment that we need.
\"Hopefully I've bought the chairman more time with regards to appointing a new manager - and I don't think this will do my chances any harm.\"

Hull 1-2 Leicester Gareth Williams' excellent goal earned Leicester a come-from-behind win at Championship strugglers Hull.
The Tigers had led at the interval after Craig Fagan had scored a fine half-volley in injury time.
Captain Patrick Kisnorbo equalised following a bad mistake from Hull goalkeeper Bo Myhill.
Williams let fly with a rocket of a right-foot and any hopes of a Hull fightback ended when Danny Coles was sent off for a professional foul.

Hull caretaker-boss Phil Brown on his hopes of landing the job permanently:
\"Nothing's changed. As far as I'm concerned, the players are still endeavouring to do the things I ask.
\"The effort and determination is there but we are just missing that bit of quality in the final third.
\"I was never going to win every game and I'll just have to deal with it.\"
Leicester manager Rob Kelly:
\"We played very well in the first half as we were very aware how they played in their last home game (a 4-1 victory against Cardiff).
\"We were determined that wasn't going to happen and I thought we started well, even though we were losing at half-time.
\"In those situations, you can either roll over and die or get on it with it; so we said `let's go out and win the second half'.
\"We showed resilience and lots of spirit and I can't speak highly enough of the players - whatever they lack, it's not character and commitment. We've got a spirit in there and we are going to make it difficult for everybody we play.\"

The 23-year-old was taken to hospital after he was forced off after just five minutes of Saturday's 2-0 win against Preston at the KC Stadium.
It was suspected that Welsh had broken his ankle or his foots - but subsequent tests have revealed that he has suffered a broken tibia and fibula.
Welsh has made 21 league and cup appearances for the Tigers this season.
He joined Hull from Liverpool in January 2006, following a successful loan spell.

Parkin returns to Hull after scoring three times in his last three games to help Stoke stay in play-off contention at the other end of the Championship.

Parkin, 25, had moved to Stoke to regain his form and fitness.

Hull's Duffy keen on Swansea move Darryl Duffy says he wants to join Swansea City on a permanent basis.
The 23-year-old striker scored five goals in five starts in a short loan period with the Swans from Hull City.
"I'm unsure about my future, it's down to the Hull manager. I'm meeting him on Tuesday to see what he's got to say," Duffy told SSB.
"But Swansea is definitely an option for me, I've absolutely loved my time here. They play good football, the type of game that I like."
Duffy said he hopes to talk to Swansea manager Roberto Martinez about the possibility of a transfer in the next few days.
Hull are thought to want to recoup the £250,000 they paid Falkirk for Duffy in any deal for the Scotland Under-21 striker.
At least three other clubs are interested in Duffy, including League Two promotion winners Hartlepool, where he scored five goals in 10 games on loan earlier this season.

New owner takes over at Hull City Hull City have been taken over by Paul Duffen after he assumed control of the Championship club from Adam Pearson.
Pearson will stay on as a board member but said he sold the Championship side to Duffen as they needed more financial backing to aid their development.
"If we are not able to invest in the club then ultimately we will fall back to where it took so long to escape from," Pearson told the club's website.
"We've come too far to allow this club to slip back into the lower reaches."
He added: "This why I feel it is now right to relinquish control and introduce a more structured traditional style of football club board to Hull.
Hull narrowly avoided relegation last season after Phil Brown became boss and Pearson says he believes Duffen is the right man to help the club avoid a similar threat next season.
"I have been very careful in the choice of new principal and feel Paul Duffen and his investment associates are right for the future of this club at this stage of its development.
"It became acutely clear last season that on my own I had taken the club as far as I could and really needed the support of a financially stronger board.
"We now have that board in place to take the club forward."
Duffen says legal papers were signed "some weeks ago" and that he approved the decision to extend Brown's tenure as manager of the club.
"I believe that Phil is the right man to deliver the success on the pitch that the fans deserve to reward their dedication and loyalty," said Duffen.
"He has my complete support."
He added: "With a lot of hard work and a bit of luck I believe that Hull City can become established as a force to be reckoned with in English football. I relish the challenge."
