Halifax on the brink of collapse
Halifax Town are on the brink of liquidation after failing to get their rescue package agreed their creditors. The club's administrator, Rob Sadler, has failed to reach an agreement with HM Revenue and Customs over their debts, SSB reports. The Shaymen are believed to have debts in the region of £2m. They could now be relegated from Blue Square Premier and Blue Square North and have a slim chance of playing in the Unibond League next season. If the Shaymen are relegated at least two divisions, as looks likely, it could mean reprieves for Altrincham who finished 21st - the highest of the four relegated clubs in the Blue Square Premier - and Hucknall Town, who finished 20th in Blue Square North. Incredibly, it would be the third successive season that Altrincham had finished in the Conference National's relegation zone, but been reprieved because of other clubs' problems. In 2006/07, Altrincham finished 21st, but were reprieved at the last minute after Boston United were relegated out of the Football League and straight through to Blue Square North because of their financial problems. In 2005/06, Altrincham finished bottom of the table but stayed up when Canvey Island pulled out of the league, taking voluntary relegation, and Scarborough were expelled at the Conference's AGM for breaching league rules.

Toulson signs for Harrogate Town
Harrogate Town have signed utility player Ryan Toulson from former Blue Square Premier side Halifax Town. The 22-year-old played 39 games for the Shaymen before joining Altrincham on loan for the last four months of last season, where he made 13 appearances. But Town have lost the services of full-back Jamie Price, who has joined Blue Square North rivals Farsley. "We made him a fantastic offer but we didn't want to get into a bidding war," said general manager Alan Williams. Price, who joined Town from York City two seasons ago, has followed Mark Hume, Chris Bettney, Steve Burton and Kirk Jackson out of Wetherby Road this summer. Toulson will join Danny Holland, Darren Dunning and Denny Ingram who have all re-signed for the club for next season, plus former loan striker Jamie Smith who has joined from Sheffield FC. Toulson's former club Halifax have just transfer-listed all eight of their remaining contracted players, and their future in Unibond Division One North is still not assured. Williams was eager to praise Price for his demeanour during his spell at Town. "He's welcome back any time he wants, he's a lovely lad. "He'll be sadly missed, a nice bloke on the field and a nice bloke off it, always a smile and a word for everybody. We wish him all the best."

Rochdale bag Halifax striker Shaw
Rochdale have completed the signing of Halifax Town striker Jon Shaw for an undisclosed fee. Shaw, 24, has agreed a two-year contract with the League Two outfit. The Sheffield-born player scored 20 goals from 38 starts for the Shaymen last season as well as adding to his caps at England C level. Shaw told Rochdale's website: "This club didn't have to do a hard sell on me after the performances last year and them nearly getting promoted." The former Sheffield Wednesday forward, joined the Shaymen in August 2007 for an undisclosed fee.
