Gerrard may miss England matches
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez says midfielder Steven Gerrard may miss England's World Cup double-header with Wales and Northern Ireland next month.
The Reds captain is out of Tuesday's Champions League game with CSKA Sofia because of a calf injury and is a doubt for Friday's European Super Cup game.
Benitez said: "If he is not fit for Friday's match it will be dangerous to play for England.
"I will talk with the England manager if it is necessary."
England travel to face Wales on 3 September and then a make the trip to Northern Ireland four days later.
Benitez added: "If he has not played games before the internationals it will be dangerous for him to play for England.
"I would need to talk to the doctor after the Sofia game and then about Monaco for the Super Cup.
"If he is not fit in two or three days, for him to play a week later would be dangerous."
Gerrard suffered the injury in the 1-0 home win over Sunderland on Saturday, his 11th match this summer.
