GALLEN ON AGENDA FOR HOLLOWAY
Plymouth Argyle manager Ian Holloway was hoping to hold talks with striker Kevin Gallen over the weekend regarding a possible return to Home Park.Gallen, 31, spent the final four months of the 2006/07 Championship campaign on loan to the Pilgrims. However, he was subsequently released by QPR at the end of the season and is now a free agent.
Gallen, who was signed by Holloway for QPR from Barnsley in November 2001, has been on holiday for the past couple of weeks.
Holloway has already made two summer recruits, with midfielder Peter Halmosi and defender Krisztian Timar completing permanent transfers to Argyle after their successful loan spells at the end of last term. The Hungarian pair cost a combined fee of £475,000.
Holloway said: "It's quite quiet at the moment, but I expected that. We have got a decent squad. The biggest thing we had to do was to sort out Peter and Krisztian because I felt they really added to us.
"Now I'm trying to negotiate my way around the Kevin Gallen situation. I'm still to get hold of him, but I intend to do that.
"I don't think he will be short of offers so we will have to see how the land lies with him. I shall be looking at that and will be reporting back to the board of directors at their meeting on Monday."
Gallen, who has been linked with a move to Watford, made a total of 16 appearances for Argyle last season, including nine starts, and scored two goals.
Holloway said earlier this month he would only be prepared to give Gallen a one-year contract at this stage of his career. Meanwhile, Holloway has confirmed that Argyle have not received offers for any of their players so far this close season.
It is thought there have been some inquiries made by other clubs, but nothing more than that.
Holloway said: "I would be very surprised if I don't get some offers because I thought we played very well last season.
"According to Penny it's because clubs can't be bothered sending people down here. It's too far for them, if you can believe that. The only time they send people to watch us is when we are in and around London."
Holloway is now counting down the days until the Argyle squad report for the start of pre-season training on Monday, July 2.
He said: "It doesn't take long does it? It's only two weeks away and I'm looking forward to it."
